A friend of mine has recently purchased a set of tips from DD which we are preparing to install in the morning. I have searched this site for install ideas but had no luck.

Is there anything I need know before getting into this, special tools or procedures etc. ? He has told me that there were no directions that came with the tips which leads me to belive that this should be pretty straight forward. BTW the truck is a 03' if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advanced.

You'll need a vice (and I'm not talking about alcohol, gambling or pain killers), a 15mm socket and 2 pieces of wood.

With a short piece of 2x4 cut it in half then drill a 7/8" hole between the 2 pieces to make a complete circle if you put them together.

This is what you will use to secure your injector into the vice with.

The wood is what clamps on to lower part of the injector body.

Then with that part secured, slip the 15mm deep well over the end of the injector tip and untorque the injector nut. It unscrews the "normal" way.

When re-installing use about 34-35ft lbs to secure the new tip to the injector body.

Make sure to be careful in the whole process and DO NOT get any particles or dirt into the injector body or tip etc.

Also, watch carefully how the injector comes apart it is simple but anything can be messed up in a hurry.

Good luck! :D

Excellent, thank you very much for the quick reply. I will take your advice, and if I have any other questions I will post back.

Thank you again,

make sure not to over torque the injector hold down bolts the heads have been know to pop off. ive had several people tell me they did it.

Wouldnt it be a good idea to have then pop tested after the tip install? I know on the nozzles that i have dealed with over the years the pressures can very quite a bit. A ballanced set is always best.

The proper torque is snug plus 30 degrees.

Make sure you clean the threads on the retaining nut and also the holder (or "injector body" if you prefer)

It's really not too tough to do.

Just got done replacing my nozzles yesterday. I couldn't get the two pieces of wood to hold the injector in the vice, but a thin 7/8 open end wrench will work. There are 2 flat spots on the injector body, between the injector hold down, and the ring right above it. We just mounted the wrench in the vise, and put the injector in the end of the wrench. It's best to have an extra set of hands for this, though, as someone needs to hold the injector into the wrench. It can come loose as you are loosening, or tightening the nozzle holder.

Thanks, lmills, (Mid-Atlantic Diesel), for the help.

Jim
