All;

I posted a while back that I heard a clicking noise coming from the motor when the key was just on and motor was not running... You all helped me out and explained that it was normal and bleeding off air...

I was driving last night and with the radio off I could hear the same clicking noise over the running engine. Is this normal with the common rails? or is this the start of a issue? I am at 65000 miles, TST box, stock everything else.

It's probably normal, but it depends on how loud it is. Of course, now that you know it's there, it probably sounds very loud to you.

Given your use of a fueling box, it could be a sign of injector or fuel rail problems to come, depending on whether the tick was there from the beginning or not.

Monitor your oil level carefully, as well as your EGT and fuel mileage.

I am not sure if the click was always there. The box was on since it was purchased by me. I decided to have work done prior to getting it, so I do not have anything to compare it to.

My fuel mileage went down from 17-18 to 15 but I contributed that to winter fuel. I smelled the oil and no diesel in it. EGT have been good and have not seen any change.

Then I don't think you have anything to be alarmed about now.

There is one other possibility - the fuel control actuator (on the CP-3) does sometimes make a loud clicking noise. This may or may not be normal, depending on when it happens.

Mine will do it just after a cold startup, while the heater grids are running, but it quiets down within a minute or two.

But I have heard people report a loud clicking FCA just before it failed. Just something to keep in mind. No need to panic.
