Archived injector help plz....

Never doing injectors before, I have a couple simple questions... .

what's the best way to remove the oil in the head ?

If I don't have feed tube puller, is that a problem or do they come out pretty easy ? I also don't have the injector puller but, have seen a screw driver can be used.

I wouldn't worry about the oil that is laying on top the head. As far as pulling the injectors without the proper tool, do what I did. Take an injector down to the hardware store and find the right length/thread bolt and get one. You can thread it in the end of the injector and just wiggle it a bit while you pull it out. Now, I forgot to look to see what year your truck was, I know this works on my 02, if you have a 3rd Gen, I don't know about those injectors. Good Luck!

yep, it's a 3rd gen. You answered my main concern. The oil. So, it's ok to have oil drain into the injector hole once removed.

I was wondering about the feed tube puller to but, just found out those have to be replaced anyway so a screw driver works for those also.

If you get any oil in the injector hole, its no big deal, will just burn off what gets into the cyclinder. Its such a small amount you won't even know it. As far as the feed tubes, no sure on a 3rd GEN, so I'll take your word on the screwdriver...

I think this is something all the companies that sell aftermarket injectors fail to reveal.

I spoke with two Cummins repair shops and several other people about this. It also says it in the service manual.

According to them, it's imparitive to replace the feed tube when ever and injector is replaced or worked on.

The end of the feed tube can get deformed from being seated in the injector. When you remove it and reinstall the same tube, it may not seat all well as it should.

All my tubes look good but, I'm no Cummins mechanic and I'll take their word for it.
