Yup after going to the Northeast Seafood get together a couple of weeks ago, I seem to be suffering from HP envy. Sooo, to remedy this I have 300HP marine injectors on order. I've already searched previous posts and will make an injector puller. Any other tips I should know about? Especially with restarting. I'm assuming pumping the priming plunger will prime the entire system. Any tips??

I tried to do the pipe puller settup, but the copper pipe was sliding down into the hole instead of pulling the injector out. I put a nut on top of the injectors and used a pry bar to sort of tap the bottom side of it. You don't want to really pry on it cause it will cock sideways, but the tapping and wiggling popped em loose.

I"m assuming you mean the 370 hp not 300. The 370s from Piers are the ones to get.

Also, they come with a copper washer on each one that you pull off and replace with the thinnest washers in the install kit. (. 020" I think)

I don't think you will have to prime the whole system. The injectors from Piers came with good instructions on re-starting. You leave the lines a bit loose at the injectors and crank until they wet themselves (you'll be close that too :D ) then snug em up and it starts pretty quickly.

Hardest part of the whole thing is the installation of the dust seals in the retainer nuts. What a PIA. Got mine good enough. A couple have little twists in em, but who's looking?

Have fun with emOo.

Thanks for the tips. I've ordered 300HP units (not 375's). I didn't want to have to replace the turbo due to high EGT's. Also I still need it to be driveable in snow/rain as it's my daily driver.

Safety first.

Keep in mind when you fire it back up, the line pressure is something like 17,000psi. It could hurt you.

That said, start with a clean engine. Pull the valve cover cover off and remove not bend the lines. Good idea to have new copper fuel return gaskets on hand. Also the gasket where the return goes into the filter housing.

I had to soak mine with carb cleaner because they were sooted in and stuck badly.

Good time to do your fuel filter and maybe clean the pre filter too. How about your rubber fuel lines? Good time for them as well if they need it.

Good idea to use a round brass wire brush (injector brush) in the injector hole to remove any debris before installing the new ones. It doesn't happen often but when it does it's a real drag taking everything apart due to poor fit leaking.

I agree with illflem. I went so far as to buy the injector hole wire brush from Cummins. As it turns out, I probably would not have needed it, but it was good insurance. Piers's injectors come with everything you need -- return line sealing washers, . 020" copper washers and dust seals. I would get the 370's; not the 300 ones. If you don't want to use them at their full potential, just take it easy with the "go" pedal. :p

I agree on getting the 370s if you can still change your order or even send the 300s back for an exchange. A very well respected 12V guru from Nevada said the drivability of the 300s is not as good as the 370s.
