RASP fuel pressure question

Diesel dynamics is selling 100 hp injectors for my truck in two configurations, complete injectors or just the nozzles. IS changing the nozzles something I can do or is it something that has to be professionally done?

you can do it, but be very careful. It is something that can be messed up very easily. They are very sensitive and be prepared to follow the directions all the way.

After you replace a nozzle you need to pop test the injecjor and most likely will need to adjust the opening pressure to specifications. Also a leak test is required.

the only reason I ask is because I like the idea of having two sets of injectors in case the new ones develop a problem. but I like the fact that just the nozzles are cheaper, but won't be worth it if I have to spend more to get them installed on my injectors. How can you pop test electronically actuated injectors? they are opened based on electric signal, not pressure right? I can see the leak test though

Scrappy, there really is not that big of a difference in the price of the DD's tips vs the injector for the HPCR injectors... (Only $150 list price. . or less ;) ) I've never done a set of Bosch tips... Only Denso's... Really the springs are very weak in the injectors... like you said. . its the pressure that does most of the holding close. . basically you have more surface area on top. . to keep the injector closed. . when the soleniod is activated. . it relieves the pressure at the top. . allowing the pressure a the tip to open... We had some wearing in the orfices at the top of the injectors. . and gaining as much as 30-40% (Denso's)

There are few that can actually test these injectors. . DonM can. .

Not sure I can help. . or did. . but tried...

Good Luck

Bryan

Thanks for the input! if I were to buy them from DD, I would get the complete ones so I have a spare set if something goes wrong. I really want Don M's flux injectors but I have to send him mine.

Just to be clear, we sell new nozzles that are modified to the power spec for the 03-04 (235/250/305hp engines), or we can modify your stock set. We do not supply a new set of injectors.

Scrappy,

The Edge nozzles are also available fo the 2003+ trucks, they have Stage I to Stage IV available at what I consider pretty darn good prices. Give us a call if you need any info.

Mark @ DPPI

Actually, we only offer Stage 1, 2 & 3 for the 2003-2004 trucks, Stage 1 & 2 only for the 2004. 5+ trucks, and Stages 1-5 for the 98-02 24v trucks.

Realizing aftermarket nozzles would obviously pass more fuel in an injection event. . what are the pros/cons of using a TST that starts the event more early and holds the OEM nozzle open longer.

I see how using both together would make even more power but I would like to hear arguments of one vs the other.

RE: Common Rail Injectors

The fact is common rail injectors can only be partially tested on a pop tester. To really test a common rail injector you must run it at full rail presure. On a machine that actually runs them as if they are in the engine and at max rail presure. (23000. psi) Any small piece of dirt or lint on lapped surfaces my cause a leak. A leak at 23000 psi is not good for your engine. Flow matching is a very important thing also. We do sell complete rebuilt and tested injectors at full rail and all the different rpms and pulse withs down to idle and starting rpm. they come stock and high performance. 1-800-955-0476 Good Luck!

What is the difference (besides price) in your 2003---2004 Extrude Honed:

  • Stock injectors
  • Stage 1 injectors
  • Stage 2 Injectors
