I am working on a 1996 with 5. 9 diesel. I had to remove the injector pump (Bosch 7100) to get to the push rod inspection plate. A friend of mine was helping and accidentally  remove a screw plug holding a banjo fitting on the front passengers side of the pump that contains a spring and a ball. Now I am going back together with the truck, and I am not sure how the spring a ball should be positioned in the plug. Does anyone know how this fits together?

The plug is #51 on this diagram.

Thanks for the help

that is your overflow valve... i would replace it anyway. get one from tork technology... . they work great and keep a lil more fuel in the pump for cavatation purposes.

BOb4x4,

The ball goes up into the spring. This does not seem right, since the spring cannot put force on the ball it simple allows it to move up into the spring. Is this normal? or a defective spring?
