A guy I know has the 2000 dodge and when trying to start his truck it won't start. He checked the code and it displayed 1688 which he was told the injection pump was shot. If this is a fact, what would be a
added info to 1st post... a code of 336 crankshaft position sensor signal was stored ahead of the code 1688. could this sensor prevent it from starting? He also checked for fuel at one of the injectors and claims its getting fuel?
Im not sure exactly what the 1688 code is, but i now for a fact that the pump can still get fuel to the injectors and have a fried brain box. Most of the failure or pre failure codes are like 0253 or 0252 and of course 0216. Good luck!!
Code 1688 is "Internal Fuel Injection Pump Controller Failure". I would check the Crank Sensor first, I replaced one on a friend's truck and it still would not start, there was a break in the wire inside the loom running to the CPS. It would be a cheaper start the the injection pump. Precison Diesel in Des Moines has a good price on injection pumps, depending on where your located, Matt Koth 1-515-986-5801.
