Hello, I have a 2005 Quad cab turbo diesel pickup. I have 49000 mile on it and generally use it for a daily driver with no loads, some travel trailer towing, a couple times a year, otherwise just to and from work 16 miles a day.

Recently, my wife noticed quite a strong new vibration in the driver's seat and the engine is generally rougher running. It aslo has more engine noise and a strong diesel smell after shutdown. Even the barista at Starbucks commented that, although he's not a "car guy", our truck sounded differnt than it usually does. My wife asked him how it was different. He said it was rattley sounding and louder than usual. I checked this myself and found that everything my wife reported was true. I looked under the hood and initially did not notice anything. The next day, I looked further and found the injector pump covered with a dirty, oily coating and the wiring connections for the computer below the pump also were covered. I cleaned everything up and checked every day for a week or so. Today, I found diesel dripping from the nut connecting one of the pipes coming out of the injector pump. It was not loose, yet small amounts of fuel were drippng from the nut connecting the pipe to the injector pump. Is there an o ring in the nut connecting the pipe to the injector pump? Can someone give me some ideas from my description of the problem?

Overall, I am experiencing no other problems. My mileage is really good and we really enjoy the truck.

Thanks, M-37

Vibrations can be caused by numerous things... the "strong diesel smell" might be associated with the leak, and nothing else.

Rattle is typically a worn injector, but might be related to your leak... depending on how bad the leak is.

The lines are tapered connectors... they do crack sometimes. If you are under warranty, I would have it looked at. If not under warranty, Cummins can get you those lines for a lot less than Dodge. If its tight and leaking, it is most likely cracked.

If the leak is on the high pressure side, it might be causing a low rail pressure which could lead to vibrations and rattle... or you may have other issues. Hard to say.
