Pump on my 1992 has been rebuilt. Shop told me to use some type of additive to lube it due to no more sulfur in fuel. Been using "Power Service" additive. Engine performance has been going down and cold starts are a very smokey experience. Suggestions?

Smokey cold starts are probably not related to use of an additive... especially in So Cal. If it starts ok, but is just smokey, look at the grid heaters. If it's harder to start look at timing, injectors, or fuel lines sucking air. I would check timing first seeing how the pump was just off. When did the problems begin?

Pump rebuilt 1 year ago. Start issues were immediate. Rarely below 35deg. overnight in winter where I live. When in Colorado it was real hell even with anti gel additive. Power has been slowly dropping off since rebuild and wonder if pump is losing pressure. Shop claimed the "Bosch" pump bodies were unavailable so no more new just rebuilt.

The shop that rebuilt it will not make it good? Did you take it back as soon as the problems started? I'm in San Bernardino. Diesel Injection Service (no connection with the company) rebuilt my pump 10K ago. No issues. It was a pretty penny :-laf. If you want details PM me I'll hook you up. I hope you did not pay too much in the first place. D. I. S. used my pump body, replaced the internals. They are Bosch certified, 'nuff said.
Patrick.
