Hi,

I have 170K on my 93 and I'm wondering if it's time to have my injectors serviced(?). . My truck runs fine but I'm trying to get it to be as fuel efficient as possible. I use Power Services Diesel Fuel Supplement in every tank mostly for the lubrication benefits(recent injector pump rebuild!) but maybe this stuff is keeping my injectors clean. I wonder if it's a good idea to get my injectors serviced or calibrated anyhow due to the milage. I've read on some "e bay" adds that the Bosch Performance Pro1 injectors will increase horsepower and mileage. would this be a better idea than haveing my orig injectors serviced?. . anyone using the Bosch Performence Pro 1 injectors with good fuel mileage results?. .

Thanks... . Chuck

Chuck-

At your age and mileage, yeah, I'd say it's a good time to get them checked out and serviced. And keep in mind, if you need one new tip, you need 6. 170K mi of flowing fuel will hone out the tips a little, making the new tip(s) uneven from the rest of the older ones. And if you need new tips, it isnt to far a step (price wise) to NEW Bully Dogs, PODs, or EDMs. I havent heard of the Bosch Performance Pro1 injectors. I'd be leery of fuel system stuff from ebay.

That said, the best way to decrease fuel consumption is to get a pyrometer and boost gague and learn to drive by them; keep your foot out of it. Also get your transmission tuned up, so it is getting adequate line pressure to the TC, or where ever it needs to go. I'm not real swift on autos; someone here who knows more what I'm talking about please clarify the muddy mess. What you need is maximum torque transfer to the wheels.

Thanks for the reply Daniel.

I recently had my transmission looked at and the belts adjusted. It's in great shape as I don't really romp on it and I treat it good when towing heavy. I occasionally hear the cooler fan go on but only once in a great while when I'm off road and pulling a load on an extended climb... I'm sure I'm loosing a great deal of transfer through my stock torque converter and I'll be changing that when I do my rear main seal which has had an annoying (couple a drips) leak after heavy driving. . I see that Peirs sells a set of 190 injectors. I may give them a call tomorrow. I'm also interested in a set of PWs . were do you get these?... . Thanks again for the help..... Chuck

The PWs are now the most expensive injector you can get, short of some ultra custom mega flow strip-only job. Bosch saw fit to double and a little more the price back in the winter- they were selling too many , and thought they would get more if they stuck it to us. But we have gone to alternatives. That leaves PODs (~$450-smoky, but add a good punch. dont recommend for too long on a stock auto), EDMs (~$600-700-pricey, but worth it, IMO- reduce smoke to near zero if all else if up to snuff, along with lowering EGTs, and increasing MPGs), Bully Dogs (~$500?- non PW industrial injector- good for 50 hp on stock settings), and a few others. Look through the links and sponsors and see what they have to offer. A good balanced set will run you $500 or so.
