With all the reports of bad injectors on some 600's I decided to check mine yesterday. I started the engine and put my hand on each injector line. What I noticed is the front one ( I assume cylinder 1) has a very pronounced pulse, or banging, of fuel. Most of the others I almost felt nothing, just a slight vibration.

Is this normal or is there a better way to check them. I cant say I have any symptoms, other than some smoke on certain startups, but I'm not really sure what the engine is supposed to sound like.

John

Johnny, I think you worry too much. :) (I know I do..... ).

Mine also feels like this, and I have felt another 600 truck also like this. Based upon this very un-scientific method, I would say it is normal. I will say that my early-build 600 runs smooth, great power, no excessive smoke. Fuel milage is about 12 mpg, but that ain't bad for an 8000 lb vehicle with 4:10s, automatic, and a daily 11-mile mostly stop and stop commute.

Except for my little belt-shredding incident :-{} , I have been pretty please with this truck. My engine is in the range that was eligible for the original TSB for the mid-range flat spot and white smoke, but I haven't had it done. We'll see how she does when the cold weather comes.

Scott

Yeah, your probably right scott, about worrying. I guess I may be looking for a problem that dosent exist. My mileage averages 18-19. 7, depending on how I drive, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Thanks for a reality check.

John

You do bring up a good point though, about the true symptoms of a bad injector, so if something were to happen, we would know what to look for.

Anyone want to chime in?

I'd be curious too to find out how to identify a bad injector. Just so you know John, Scott is correct. They all have the same pronounced pulse on the forward injection line. I went through this process myself awhile back. Scott's mileage and mine are about the same. I would say you were doing really well John.

The way I noticed mine was the dip stick was reading four inches above normal and it was all diesel fuel :) Hopefully you will notice a problem earlier than my employees.
