I have heard a lot of talk about changing from the stock injectors for power increase. Now I am wondering if an injector swap will add power to an otherwise stock motor? No box, no boost fooler just stock. I am new to the diesel realm, but I don't see how this is possible unless the injector pump is instructed to deliver more fuel to feed the larger injectors. Is there something I am overlooking here? Has any one (customer or supplier of aftermarket injectors) performed and dyno tests after installing larger injectors on an otherwise stock engine?

I was considering a mild upgrade such as 275-300 hp rv injectors.

The Bosch RV275's will give you a nice 50-hp increase with the ETC. You won't need to add a boost fooler and your stock transmission should be alright with it (you might want to tighten up the bands just a bit). Additionally, I'll bet you see a true 0. 5-mpg mileage increase. Anything beyond this however, will require other modifications.

I think that Diesel Dynamics (http://www.dieseldynamics.com/) has some dyno graphs showing the results your looking for. The Bosch RV275's have 7 smaller injector holes over the stock 5 holes which lead to a better spray pattern and better atomization of the fuel leading to a better burn.

They WILL add power, and also some smoke at early acceleration. With little injectors that you're talking about they wont add much (smoke) though. A boost fooler is cheap and a good idea to keep smoke to a minimum. The pump dumps pressure at a certain timing stage and the bigger injector will flow more fuel before the pump dumps the pressure. As you have an auto your truck is a non HO it would respond better to a box than injectors. HO's like injectors first and SO's like a box first for the most noticable gain. With a stock auto be careful how much power you add or it'll need rebuilt. Most poeple seem to be fine with an Edge EZ and the 45HP ?? it gives. Where are you in WA? I'm in Ephrata. Jake

Jake, I am in Puyallup about 7 miles westish of Tacoma. I am hesitant about adding a box. I understand this is hard on the VP44 and don't want to have to deal with replacing it. The box's also allow the boost to increase above the stock 20 psi. I am looking for a mild upgrade no more than 100 ft. lbs. at rear a wheels. My thought was that injectors would be the best bet for increasing power (slightly) and still maintaing reliability. :)

Good luck Hahn007. Most of us get a small taste of he power and have a really hard time stopping at just "a little bit". I wish you well

Put a Edge EZ or a Diesel Dynamics True Torque Power Module on it. A lot less work, not hard on the pump at all. My DD TTPM came with the boost elbow, and it gives you 6 more psi, and no codes! So this tells me it has a "fooler" incorporated into it. Biggest thing is my Dodge Dealer won't warranty the motor if it has injectors in it, because I asked when I bought it what mods would void the warranty, they said injectors and a box that pierces the pump wire, like the Edge Comp does, that is what they see the most. And there is NO SMOKE with a EZ or a TTPM.

Welcome Hahn. You've got some great advice here already. I'd like to put a plug in for my favorite BOMB, it's The CaTCHER software reflash for the engine ECM. Take your time & do a lot or reading before you start spending $$$. BOMBing can be habit forming. :-laf Don't forget to check the TDR classifieds. There are some great deals found there.

Actually, the 275's give 28-32hp increase at the wheels over a stock set.

Sorry, I was quoting Joseph Donnelly at https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25662&highlight=injector:
Yes. Dyno testing indicates a gain of 33 hp with the 5 speed engine, 42 hp with ETH, and 50 hp with automatic trans equipped engine.

I've never had a reason to doubt him. I have never dynoed my truck with the RV275's from Joe and the DD TTPM from Keith but its a bit more peppy than stock.

Yes, and they give a wee bit more on an HO truck (higher injection pressure).

I consider the 275s about the safest mod you can make to a stock truck. They are a subtle improvement, but noticeable. Good mpg, too.

DD's TTPM (true torque power module) is the box you want, though I have to say I would recommend their adjustable box, the Ultimate Fueling Module and just leave the pump wire disconnected.

If you want more power than the RV275s will give, some mild Mach 1 injectors from F1 diesel. They are an honest 60hp, need NO OTHER MODS either (just like the 275s), and are only $500.

275s have been running about $380 these days. Considering the Mach 1s give you 20-30 more hp for only $500, I'd say they are a better bargain even than the 275s.

~40rwhp in the ETH... but dresslered's post specifically stated ETC. The topic starter didn't say which model he had.

Just to give you an idea of what the power output is with my truck (it is an H O not an S O like the first poster has in his signature) I have dynoed 352 rwhp and a tad bit over 700 foot pounds of torque. I have DDII's and an Edge EZ as stated in my signature and have had this combination for three years. I still have my stock clutch but it is just starting to slip a little if I push too far on the go pedal when I am under 2000 rpm. I have at this time 52,xxx miles on the truck and have pulled 8,000 pounds of trailer a few times without any problems with egt's or the clutch.

I checked earlier this week. 275's are still $275. Mach 1's are $500 plus $100 core. I would like a set of Mach 1. 5 or 2's but then i would need a clutch and turbo. 275's are good bang for the buck in my opinion.

Banks?

Heck, I think a Banks sticker will give you that ;)

Id never ride in any vehicle that has a BANKS sticker on it

People never learn, Banks is for people that wanna have problems w/their SHTI

IMO :p

My Big Hoss gave me 682TQ on level-4. Now I'm on level-5 and my clutch is slipping below 2000RPM! Lets not trash Banks too much now boys, please.
