Would installing larger injectors and detuning my programmer be a quieter and more efficient way of making power? The motor is stock with 4" exhaust, boost fooler, and the hypertech programmer. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It just seems like it has a lot of injector noise with the tuner maxed out. Thanks Guys!

What you're probably hearing is "timing rattle". The more your programmer advances injection timing, the higher the peak firing pressure and the noisier the engine.

Injectors can be a "softer" way to make power. If I unplug the data link plug on my EZ, the DD2s feel much like stock (since the ECU is controlling fuel as a function of boost and RPM again), but stronger across the RPM band.

Thanks Rusty! I will look at a injector change, but not sure how hot to go. Would like a good increase without sacrificing durability. Any suggestions?

Mine are the older extrude-honed style injectors, so I'm certainly not an expert on the current EDM injectors available. If I were looking for a nice, streetable injector that didn't throw EGTs through the roof with the stock turbocharger, I'd look at something like DonM's (F1 Diesel) Mach 1. 6 sticks.

JMHO

I just sent a PM. Like Rusty said "Don's F1, 1. 6s are a nice set up that are very drivable and don't send the egts through the roof w/stock turbo" - well as long as the comp box is Less than 4/5 :-laf

Very happy with mine so much so that I'm looking to upgrade (4s or 5s) when $$$ for bigger turbo becomes availalbe. :D

I have some, F-1 1. 6s and they are fine at low altitude. They worked great pulling a 16K trailer across the country from MD to UT. At least till we hit western WY. Once we got to Park City, UT it was a whole 'nother story. I wasn't sure about getting up the hills to the house even w/ the box turned off. Tons of smoke and bogging as h*ll. There's just not enough O2 at 7000' to run a stock turbo and these injectors w/ a big load. Pretty smoking w/o big load, but not as bogging. I'm not bashing these injectors, just giving a heads up since you didn't post your location. Any brand injector around this size would perform the same. I'm actually going to detune to a stock or 275 injector if anyone is interested in these. My truck is a work truck w/ 197K miles, so I'm not interested in spending bucks on a new turbo(s) or other methods to deal w/ the smoke and bogginess.

tmacc,

Are you still running the HY35W-9 turbo? That, and your automatic, are a different beast than the original poster's NV4500 and HX35W-12 turbo.

Rusty,

True. I didn't look at the sig. They're different animals. Like I said, I wasn't bashing the F-1s. Just posting my experience.

I run M1's at 4000' and things can get hot when I am just dinking around, but towing performance is still pretty good.
