2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Bulb Help

I have DD2s with over 100K miles. No problem other than not quite as smooth as I would like. Is there a recommended rebuild time? if so, who? how much should it cost ? Any suggestions?

Thanks. Tom

I'm not sure of a time/mileage, but I might be able to help with whe cost.

I've had 2 local bosch certified shops do injectors for me in the past. They pop tested and re-shimmed them to get the pop pressures usually within something like 10 bar of each other. I think they are supposed to pop at 305 bar by spec. They wrote the pop pressures, after re-shimming on the bag of each injector and I remember pop pressures between 295 and 305 bar I think. I also remember them saying they only stocked shims that would change pop pressures 10 bar at a time?????

I think I paid around $75 two years ago the last time I had this done.

It's been a while so the above info might be a little off . Just trying to help.

Good luck.

Are you sure about pressure? I want to put in stage II Jammers myself and ten bar seems like a lot of spread to have for a smooth running engine. One bar is 14 psi and I try to get my Mercedes closer than this.

Thanks

Robert,

It's about a 3% variance across the injectors. I know that my 2001 truck ran well with those pop pressures (assuming I can believe the diesel shop).

And I don't doubt that you got your MB injectors tighter than that but just for fun, what is the pop pressure on those? The same 300 bar or lower? I have zero MB diesel experience as you might be able to tell.

Again, I could be way off here, but these numbers stick in my head and I also remember hearing about worn, older injectors popping in the mid 200 bar range.

I thought the same as you and that's why I remember those pressures. I kept thinking why can't they get those things within a few bar of each other??

Oh, and I built my jammer 4's for my old truck myslef also. I really liked those sticks and you will like them. I had those popped and I think they only needed to adjust one or two.

The Mercedes injectors pop at 135 bar so 5 bar is a more significant deviation, MB is not a direct injection engine 300sd. On the other hand though, they were mine and I had time to get them together. I did not see enough difference to warrant the time and trouble though. I cannot find mu notes from when I did them and cannot remember what a . 001 difference made in pressure. It looks like I need an adapter to pop the 24v cummins, do you know where I can get one or what it would look like so that I can make one?

Thanks

Robert

Robert,

That sounds about right then and I guess the same 3% would put you at a 4 bar diff. on the MB injectors.

Sorry, but I don't know where to get an adapter. That would be nice since you can do it yourself and pulling the injectors is only about an hour job once you do it a few times. And, you can make a quick $75 by popping and shimming sticks for guys that install the tips.

I have had DDIIs from PDR for 140,000 miles with no problems. Keep in mind I have a FASS and 3 filters also. Are we supposed to have the injectors serviced at maintance intervals? Opps:eek:
