My 93 CTD (250,000+ miles, auto trans, stock 160 hp) could use a little more. Is it sane to think of picking up used injectors say maybe 215 hp or so? Which ones will work? Looking for a little, not a lot. Anyone who has tried this, please give me some ideas. Thank You.

On the same topic, is there any way of cleaning the nozzles? Is there a bore brush that small?... a very small drill bit? Would this help or hurt the spray pattern? Could you "upgrade" stock injectors by drilling the nozzle slightly?

Or am I once again proving that some questions actually are stupid? Or is it the questioner... . ?

Thanks.

Tugboat... .

I am in the process of replacing my injectors and will be investigating that issue as I have been thinking about that as well.

I have access to an edm machine and will let you know what I think when I get that far. Stay tuned for a few weeks... .....

So that makes 2 stupid ones:D :D

Phil,

I wouldnt recommend drilling your nozzle tips out unless you have some VERY precise equipment such as an EDM machine, etc. ANy error will result in BIG changes in flow rates between individual nozzles.

ltstauffer-

An injection shop can take your nozzles apart and clean them and recalibrate the pop off pressure. With 250K+, it probably isnt a bad idea. THe 215 injectors will require a body swap- they have different threads where the line screws in to the injector. THansk to legalized price gouging, Bosch doubled the price of their Power Wagon injectors this past fall. BUt if you're only looking for an extra 20-40 hp, you can turn up your pump a little and not hurt it. Turning the AFC eccentric cone from stock to full on will net an extra 25-30 hp. May want to do a few other tweaks to cut smoke after that. I can post more details or you can PM me.

Each his own but I would get a new set of 185s sometimes call marine injectors . You should call Piers Harry in Canada and see what he has to offer . Look at my truck in the reader rig section and you can see what I have done . I am a little leery of buying used injectors .
