I've kinda hit on this dilema before, but I guess I'm still a little unclear on the answer. If I only upgrade to larger injectors, like DD2's, will I realize the power/performance increase numbers as reported on the DT website? or will I have to install an EZ or VA box to reap those benefits?

From what I've gathered by reading the various posts on this subject, it seems that if you install a box without the larger injectors, you're asking alot out of your fuel pump to push more fuel through the stock injectors. However, I'd like to think that by installing larger injectors, the stock computer will be able to send additional fuel through the injectors and produce the desired output. I could be completely wrong on this, but I'm sure you all will set me straight.

You will get very close to the gains shown on the DD website. Some get a bit more, some a bit less but all in the ballpark. You do not need a box to run the injectors. You will want a boost module for the DD2 and larger injectors though. I think it is included with the injectors, but I may be wrong.

Injectors and boxes both make power but it feels different. The injector will make a gain across virtually the entire RPM band while the boxes make more of a "hit" at lower RPM and continue it to the point where it stops adding fuel. I think that the big injectors are more driveable on wet or slick roads and easier on the drivetrain without huge torque gains in low RPM situation that a box will give you. Hope this helps.

If your ETH is anything like mine was when stock, I'd becareful with the addition of just larger injectors. I put gauges in my truck first and ran that way for a few months. It was way too easy to hit 1300 F pre-turbo, the addition of larger injectors alone will only compound the problem. A better first BOMB would be the Edge EZ ( or the Edge Comp. box if you plan on adding a new clutch and are really looking to push the HP envelope).

My first HP mod. was the EZ and it really made a difference on the ETH. My egt's went down as I now could make 28 psi's of boost, climbing the same grade as stock I saw 1050 pre-turbo V. 1300 stock, and that was going at a considerably faster clip. Also, if you go with the EZ box now ( or the Comp. and just leave the VP44 wire untapped), you can wait on the addition of larger injectors until you have enough $$$ for a good clutch and a larger turbo. Upgrade properly and avoid the headache of having to play catch up to your HP when you don't have the money to spend on same. I don't think the fueling requirement of the EZ box is enough to be concerned about the longevity of the VP44 pushing fuel through stock injectors. Just my $0. 02.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks Bigsaint and Lsmith.

Because I will be limited on BOMB funding, I will have to choose my battles wisely. If going with the EZ will give me performance and power I can be :D about, I think that will most likely be the way I will go. I am still researching the whole gauge dilema to see which setup to go with there. Since my rig is primarily a daily driver and warm weather (for now) TT puller, I'm not looking to go overboard on enhancements, that is if there is such a thing. Besides, as mechanically disinclined as I am, when something breaks, I have to take it to someone to fix.

dz.. the wife not noticing.. haha

dz. . good luck. . hahaa... . I barrowed an EZ from a friend for a few days. . the G-friend knew after about 2miles that I had been working on the truck again. . :D

The EZ is just that. . EZ to hook and unhook. . but for the price look take a look at the Comp... Gauges. . well. . once you have them you will wonder why they didn't have them from the factory. . bigger trucks have them. . even the new chebbys have a trany temp... not trying to jump on the wagon. . but they were my first mod to the truck (and the engine is still stock)

Good Luck

Bryan
