Having a hard time deciding between Edge or similiar box versus injectors. Curious what the dollar per H. P. @Torque number is. Is there substantially less E. G. T. concerns? My truck is a Ca. S. O. so im at the bottom rung in H. P. @ torque. I occasionally tow a #8,000 bobcat package and will need to move a Case 350 dozer package that weighs about #10,000. I am a big fan of reliability and simplicity, injectors seem to fit that bill?I am all ears;)

My thoughts.

Keep in mind I don't have a 3rd gen but I think this applies to both second and third gen trucks. Also, this is only my opinion.

For the money and power, boxes are cheaper... more quick power for less money. I have the Edge EZ on my 2nd gen.

I think the best route for durability and longevity is injectors. They don't add as much task to the injector pumps and in the case of 3rd gens, they don't play with the rail pressure.

When I get my 3rd gen, I will go the injector route. I have been the box route and bought a new VP44 (coincedence, I think). The injector pump on the 3rd gens is not a VP44, but it is the same type pump and not much is known about it outside Cummins and Bosch. It is not know how hard it can be pushed or how far beyond the stock limits it can prosper for extended periods of time. The boxes push it beyond those limits, no doubt.

My thougt on my 3rd gen is go with DD Stage 1 injectors (50hp) and do the Muffler removal (EGT management). This should be reasonably cheap and not add any stress to the injector pump or common rail. Any more and you are looking at a Turbo and exhaust system upgrade to safely manage EGT when loaded heavy.

Just my 0. 02 Not worth a dime!;)

Depends on what you are looking for in the end. Be aware that with your truck, the Stage 1's would be OK without a box, but any more than that, you will need the box to have the boost module feature.

Stage 1's and a TTPM make a nice setup on a CA model. Get you right to about where a HO w/TTPM would be... right at the limit of the stock turbo and stock clutch (for 6-speed).

If you have the 47RE auto, that's too much power.

I have the 48. Kind of untested as of yet,im hoping it would hold the new numbers. Im not ready to upgrade the transmission yet. Can anyone throw some rough $$$$ for injectors in this discussion? Thanks,Mark.

Catoiler, Stage 3's will add 100hp without a box, more with. With just 3's in a SO, that will put you right at the limit of the stock turbo. If you are planning to add a box or two later, and a turbo, go with the 2's if you plan to tow over 10k.

Let me say this real clear :INJECTORS KICK BUTT. With the box on level 6 I can hit 1200* at the top end of the rpm range. That is with an airbox and DD 5" exhaust. You need to think of HP mods as more of a complete package.

DDII's

DD Pusher Pump

DD 5" exhaust

DD airbox

DD TTPM

With these mods you will be able to handle you egt's. A turbo is in order for sure but not completely needed at this point. I know I can control egt's pretty easy. I have hauled 12,000 lbs and by the time you hit 1200* you will be going way to fast to slow down. These are the mods that are on my truck except the pusher pump. It is going to be orderd today. The turbo will come next week. Not because I need it... ... Because I NEED it!!!!

Might as well do IIs

Another thought on injectors, if you're going to do it and are going to have to upgrade your turbo anyway, I wouldn't just go with Stage Is. The ISBe injectors are pretty spendy but to go for DD's Stage IIs it's only $150 more than the Stage I injectors.

My truck was able to pull fuel pressure down to zero with just the ez. Others have seen the same and then again for some it hasnt been a problem. I would plan on a pusher in your budget just in case. If you dont need it you come under budget. If you do... you do. Keith can fix you up.

FWIW, my 2nd G with EZ box (fueling and timing) dropped 3 seconds on 0-60 time. My 03 3rd G dropped 2 seconds with fueling only. EZ with have a fuel and timing box out soon. My . 02 - the box adds power WHERE YOU DRIVE, from the midrange up, not just on top.
