Other posts on this board brought up a question I have. It is assumed that a box that taps the pump wire and forces more fuel will shorten pump life. It is also assumed that larger injectors by themselves will not shorten pump life. But, if you are using a box and stock injectors, all the fuel that is not injected is returned to the tank. If you install larger injectors, the excess fuel is returned to the tank and the pump is going to be pushing just as much fuel as it did before, at the same pressures. So it looks to me like installing a box will shorten pump life, but installing injectors with a box is not going to make the box less harmfull to the injector pump. I realize that everyone has an opinion on this, but I want to hear what an expert has to say. If anyone has been inside a VP-44, please tell me why larger injectors will help it live longer. I am not wanting to argue with anyone, I just want to know why.

I'm not an expert. I think I'm a reasonable person though. My view is that if anything is forced to work more or harder, the wear rate will increase. However, there are a lot of members here that have increased the wear rate on the pump, but until the pumps start dropping like flies, we won't really know. First, you would have to know the life expectancy of the pump (MTTF or hopefully MTTR). Only the manufacturer can supply that data. Personally, I'm not going to worry about it too much. The tow and fun factors don't come for free. Each one has to make his/her own choice.
