Does anyone have a suggestion for a set of injectors that can be used for towing with an aftermarket intake and exhaust? The combined weight will be about 14K. I will be all over the country (plenty of hills and elevation changes). I have a Banks box and the EGT only runs about 1000 deg max empty, so I am thinking about a set of injectors and turn the box down for towing and back up some for running empty.

I can see higher temp than that on my stock SO with an intake and exhaust. What kind of temps do you see cruising?

Sure sounds low. Our 2nd generation HO with an HX35W-12 turbo would hit 1300 degF pre-turbo towing our 13,500 lb 5th wheel when the truck was stock.

I have a totally stock So 235 HP California truck my wife drives as a daily driver. I can get it to 1250* pulling my 10000 lb horse trailer. On my bombed truck I found that you can control EGT's very easily with a light foot and some speed going up hill. I have run DD2's and 3's and the 3's are at least 200* hotter pre turbo. I am sure a DD Jammer Turbo would make it a little cooler but I would recommend the 2's.

Ummm... the question was injectors -- right?

... but do double check that temp!

Something to consider; with the timing and pulse adjustments of a box like the PowerMaxCR (there's others on the market now; that's just the one I have experience with) you can make more power then you could ever safely use -- no injectors required. I run mine on 3/3 (have never had it higher; goes to 9/9); pulling 10000lbs I have enough throttle to punch it; get a kick in the pants; and top hills at 90+ to my hearts content. So it stays at 3/3! When I get insane and have several grand laying around with nothing else to spend it on I'll be getting twin turbos beefing up the head and..... ooops; tangent.

Haven't heard anyone state this yet... so I'll stick my neck out:

I don't think I'd swap injectors unless I was reaching for insane horsepower -- with these boxes there just isn't a need. If you can avoid the temptation to turn it past 3/3 (all stock) or with upgrades maybe 4/4 (possibly 5/5) with intake - exhaust - and a bigger clutch; then a good box with timing and pulse will be plenty and you don't have to mess with engine internals. JMO!

I think the injectors are about the smoothest feeling I have had yet on the power. With my truck, if I didn't tow, I would leave in the stage 3 injectors and run around all the time with 100 HP extra. It comes on so smooth from the bottem and all the way through the top. I know for a fact that the boxes do not come on at 900 rpm's and pull to 3400 rpm's.

I talked to Rod @ Wildcat Diesel, he is getting ready to start testing on the new EDM injectors, if you can wait these will be the best for your money. I will be changing myself.

Greg,

That is exactly why I am thinking about changing injectors. I want more bottom end and good power and reasonable EGT for towing when I have the Banks box turned down. Then I can have more power for running empty by turning the box up.
