I have the dealership paying 850. 00 for a set of injectors on my 04 305/555. My question is, would I be better off using that money for a box and exhaust instead? I drive mostly highway, and tow anywhere from 3000-13000 lbs. I am concerned about reliability especially with injectors that only cost 850 labor included. The box I am looking at would be another Edge EZ. Thanks for any input.

I can't speak for the injector boys (and girls) out there but my opinion would be go for the Edge Ez with an exhaust. I have 15k on the Edge Ez with no problems and if you do a search you'll see that not very many people have. You'll love every minute of it. :D:D:D

Easy answer, go for the EZ. Much cheaper, and you can get an exhaust too. Besides, with injectors, your going to need some kind of boost fooling, anyhow.

Thanks for the input, I am hoping since they (dealership) said they would pay the 850 for injectors, I can get them to write me the check and do the box and exhaust, with some of my own money.

Thanks again.

IYDMMA, how did you get them to buy you injectors?

Ok, long story as short as possible. I went to look at one of only 2 in IN like I was wanting, and at the time, I did not know the many differences in the 305/555, and the 600 truck. I neg price and told the dealer, that they had to guarantee the truck was a 600, and they did, as far as they could tell (by the engine order code) it was in fact a 600. Shame on me for trusting them! A week later after putting 2 and 2 together from here, I realized it is the 305/555. I called them and they ask what they could do to make it right? I said replace the truck with a 600. They said no, but we can give you horsepower and torque and keep you under warranty. I said ok, you pay the bill, and after two more weeks of fighting them to pay all instead of 1/2, they called yesterday and agreed to take care of it.

Sorry so long, Shannon

Go with the EZ, exhaust and get some gauges. If you want more power than that, you'll need a clutch, turbo, fuel pusher kit and you get to pick how much more with the injectors.

what injectors are they getting you? how do you know it's not a b. s. ploy??? i didnt realize that the diff fromm 555 to 600 was a set of cummins injectors? i'd tell them what to put in it if it was me. where do they get $850?

if theyll give you the h. p. as promised w/inj then get a box for 2/3 of that after for boost fooling and added h. p thats how i'd do it.

20 h. p. inj for $850. 00? i dont get it?

Yeah what injectors are they putting in???

That price seems pretty high.

I was looking at the bullydog injectors for about that price and it was 120hp... Not just 20.

It does state the engine right on the sticker so you would not have had to do to much research to find out which way the truck came. I think your lucky. The 04 is the better engine IMO. You will get better mileage and have no smog. Do nothing but throw an EZ on there and you will have better milage, no smog, and more power. Yep, god works in mysterious ways. I would tell them to give you the cash and spend it on the one you have.

Yes I am lucky. It is not a ploy, I know the shop owner who is going to do the work. They are Bosch injectors and are 60 hp upgrade. I am also doing (in a couple weeks) guages, box and exhaust. I will leave the box set on 1 or 2 until I can get the transmission work done. Thanks for the help.

Box still equals warranty???

Regardless of what you go with I'd suggest looking at the cost/benefit comparisons. If they pay for and install the injectors you get the horsepower from that, plus you get to stay under warranty. If they cut you a check (I wouldn't bet on it!) and you buy a box and exhaust I doubt that they will still keep you under warranty. One other thing to consider: Is the dealer keeping you under warranty or is DC keeping you under warranty. I'd hate to go the injector route, only to break down in another state and find out other dealers ain't gonna honor the warranty. As a general rule, the further you are from the dealer where you purchased the vehicle (measured in as the crow flies miles) the less they care about any problems you have.

The dealership is paying for the injectors and labor. I did not even ask for a check after the headaches I've had. Good ? on the warranty issue. I would like to think DC will stand behind it, but I doubt it. I agree on the distance to the dealership, I am only about 20 min from them, and 25 min from the shop that does thier diesel work.

The moment you get a headache is the moment the dealer gets an advantage. If you go with the replacement injectors I'd nail down the warranty question before they begin the work, and get it in writing. If it is only that one dealer honoring your warranty one 500 mile tow at your expense could wipe out the "make it right" work they initially paid for. If you simply want more power I suggest you read the thread on "Cummins ECM Hacking":

If it can be made to work for the 3rd Generation trucks that sounds like the Holy Grail to me.
