long time gearhead, but new to the diesel world, so bear with me... ... ... ... ...

Can somebody school me on the benefits of injectors vs. programmers? If I'm just looking for a mild towing upgrade, what are the pros and cons of the two.

I see injectors would be more pricey, but then I think that they may have a benefit in that if you were to swap back to stock injectors, then the dealer couldn't tell that the truck has been modded?

I'm not looking to dodge any responsibility (pun intended) for modifying my truck, but it would be nice to aviod those situations where the dealer is trying to deny a warranty claim when the broken part(s) isn't related to the modification, since that can be a pretty vague, gray definition.

"Generally" speaking, the injectors are smoother horse power. They are nice for towing because the power comes on smooth and is "flat".

A box can be a bit schitzo and "surging" and may add allot of timing that could be harmful if your towing heavy.

Just make sure you get injectors that are going to help you tow, big injectors will of course mean a bigger turbo, exhaust, gauges to control heat blah blah blah

Obviously the aforementioned equipment would be good to have with a box also :)

Hope this helped make things as clear as mud :-laf

I probably should have added that I have no intentions of going beyond a small power updgrade for towing. My modding/fabricating/tinkering itch is well scratched with the toy that the cummins pulls.

Am i correct to assume that Daimler would have no way of knowing the truck was modded if the stock injectors were put back in, or is there someway for them to figure that one out.

I'm also assuming larger injectors on an elsewise stock engine would produce more black smoke till the turbo catchs up? That would also be a pro or con depending on your view of excessive smoke of course.

I would suggest a boost fooler with the injectors to allow the stock turbo to give you a bit more boost to clean up the extra fuel. A boost fooler should not set off a code but stranger things have happened. You may also set off a code for over fueling but it really depends on your truck.

Personally mine never set off a code for years and then set off a couple codes a short while back. Easy to reset with the smarty though.

I think allot of people are very happy with F1's mach 1. 5 injectors for clean smoke, low temps and good power for towing with a stock charger.
