Hey gang, I am currently looking at injectors for my truck. I currently have a Comp and a 4 inch exhaust and besides a air intake system, injectors will be my last power add-on for this truck. What I'm looking for is something that is pretty decent priced, I guess around $300 and that will give me a a little more horsepower. I see there is a ton of different types out there but I would like to know from you guys what would fit this bill.

For 300 bucks your choices are limited. RV275's are around that new but I wouldn't waste your time with ~40HP injectors. With that budget in mind you should be able to find some used DDII's or DDIII's for 300 - 400$. I got my DDII's here on the classifieds for 325$. I am extremly happy with my II's, they add great power and didn't hurt fuel economy. I'm sure EDM injectors are better but the price is much better too!

I think Jammer tips are in that price range but I don't know much about them. I'm sure somenoe else will chime in about them.

Good luck,

John

My primary use for my truck is towing, and I recently put in 275rv injectors. I love them. They make a huge difference towing, and my peak mileage went up 3 mpg, but av. mpg is up about 1 mpg. I got them for $255 new off E-bay. For heavy towing, I think that is all the 5 speed would want if it is going to last for a long time. BTW, is that your farm in the background?

That piece of property belongs to our neighbor whose family runs a dairy farm out. Thanks for the replies guys. The 275's are plentiful on eBay and that might be the way to go.

By the way, did you install the injectors yourself or have someone else do them? I have done my other minor mods but I really dont feel comfortable in doing engine work.

Injectors are not a difficult task, MHO. There are plenty of instructions out there that give very easy to follow and specific step by steps that make it easy enough to do on your own. Do a search here to see if you can find one then form your own opinion.

If your willing to change the tips yourself you could get a set of jammers, stage two or three would probably be good for what you want and thier edm'd.

Injector install

Go for it. Take your time & you'll be fine! I'm running 275s & their a pretty decent upgrade. You'll be able to send smoke signals when you want to & there is a noticeable power increase above stock when pulling. The downside is they are only about a 40 RWHP increase. EGT's shouldn't suffer though & they're affordable. Shoot me a PM if you want the instructions.

I found the install very easy, if you have the tools. I bought an in. -lb torque wrench for the injector hold down clamp bolts, to do the job right. It does sound intimidating at first, but the #6 injector really isn't hard to do either if you remove the engine lift bracket. I replaced them between chores, when I had to have the truck the next morning for haying. Just remember to follow all the torque specs, and take your time.

Sorry to burst your (last) upgrade. After you have installed those bigger injectors. I'll give you 3 months before good'ol Mr. Clutch needs to be upgraded. Been there done that. But it sure is fun. Oo.

Just keep it runnin wide open!

My 2001 Six speed HO is missing real bad (dead miss), and smoking bad (like real bad) when first started and will do this for several minutes, usually only clearing up after I drive it for a few minutes...

It has been doing that for about 3 weeks. Just cant shut it down right now, and take it off the road, too busy.

I think I need a new injector (s). I plan to take it to the shop Monday, but it is a "normal" diesel shop, and not performance minded. I feel if I have them replace the injectors, I will end up with stock replacements.

I tow with this truck, Heavy loads, at highway speeds for long hauls, often. I would like as much performance as I can safely have, and maybe better fuel milage. (I often get as low as 7 mpg pulling bigger loads)

I have had this truck for about a year, had 130,000 when I bought it, and now has 180,000. I have never been impressed with the new "high output" 24 valve. It seems to be just a high reving torqueless engine. I have a stock 12 valve truck that run almost as good, with loads more torque down low. ( and another one with a #10 fuel plate will smoke this 24 valve "HO")

I think it is really underpowered, and always has been since I have owned it. Last week, pulling a 29 foot gooseneck, with equipment stacked up about 11 feet tall (catches lots of wind) weighing about 11,000 pounds. I could not put it overdrive, and at anything over 55 mph in direct gear (5th in a 6 speed) it would heat up (230). Been this way since I have owned it. Speed limit is 70, and I am doing 54... ... .....

Anyway, I need to have this truck looked at. I would like a improved over stock injector, but I must have dependability. I do NOT have any gauges in this truck, and it is often driven by hired drivers. I do not own this truck because I like working on them, racing them etc. I have them because they make me money. So I just want it to be right, and want the repairs cost effective, and not require a lot of "special handling", but I dont like being passed up on the free way, and my drivers dont like driving it...

Spoken like a man that's never driven an HO with a Catcher ECM and Mach 4s. I'll put the bottom end of that combo against ANY 12V!

If you want power and towing performance for your HO 24V, then get some Mach 1. 6 injectors from F1 diesel (the famous Don M), and a Smarty Downloader (with Catcher software) from Bob Wagner.

This combo will make you forget all about your 12V for towing.

OK, I need a set of F1 injectors, but I run "google" search and just come up with post on this web site talkng about him. How do I contact?

I dont know what a Smarty Downloader is, but I did a seach through all the TDR site advertisers and came up with a website for him. Will check it out. I have heard that too much HP can affect the life of the VP44 (read that on this site) As far as I know, mine is all original.

I dont know what "jammer 3s drap comp i tow on 1x1" means

The only hot rod trick that may adversely affect VP44 life is tapping the pump wire. This means that if VP44 life is super important to you, then stay away from an Edge Comp, TST Powermax, and Blue Chip fueling boxes.

My wire has never been tapped, and my VP died @ only 42K. So much for keeping it alive.

The technology is out there to make all the power you could ever need without tapping the wire. You can get a clean running 400hp with just a Smarty and Mach 4 injectors. (and a turbo upgrade)

Since you'r worried mostly about towing and MPG, then the Smarty and Mach 1. 6 injectors is the setup for you. Super clean, great mpg, and lots of grunt. --jh

I realize you're asking about injectors, but I don't see any gauges listed in your sig. You really need some guages with just the comp alone. I didn't have any trouble going past 1200 empty with the comp and 275's. now that i have jammer 3's I can't run too long at 3x3 without hitting 1200+. I can control the temps real well if I stay below sublevel 3. (Upgraded turbo is on the way) :)

If you have the gauges then my vote is for the jammer 2's or 3's from citydiesel.net. Price will be slightly more than the $300 you mentioned but not much, and I believe they test and balance the set before sending it out.

Jeff, what turbo are you going with? I need to upgrade also and I'm trying to get some ideas as to which turbo I should go with. Sorry about the thread hijack :)

Dodgezilla

I'm pretty sure it won't be able to keep up w/ egt's when I start getting in the higher settings of the comp. It should let me keep in it a little longer though, before I have to back out.

I'm going to try my existing 12cm housing for now. If that won't do it then I may go for a 14cm housing. I wanted to keep the turbo oriented towards low speed towing, so i didn't want to go too big.

Almost went w/ the HTB2. But couldn't talk myself into the extra $700 for the turbo & downpipe.

My dz should be here in a few days. Then I'll pass along some more info how it does.
