Hey guy's,Im looking at picking up a set of injectors in the next few weeks and was wondering about the Bosch 185 or the POD's. I've heard the POD"S smoke more but not sure how much is acceptable ,power wise how much of a diffrence is there. Just as a side note I want to also humiliate my brothers powerstroke with a Bank's kit on it. Thank's for the input Joe

There is a LOT of discussion on this. If you do a "search" you'll find more info than you really want. :D

Bosch just hiked the prices of the 185's so they're not really worth the money anymore. POD's are nice, but they smoke like destroyers.

Right now, I've got a set of test injectors from Don M comming and hopefully they'll hit the market soon as long as they work well for me. ;)

I recently installed pods. They rip but you have to be prepared for some smoke. more or less depending on pump settings. never raced a powerjoke but my buddy has 275 RV injectors in his 99 and thats definately not enough

I am much happy with the bosch 185's, I got mine just before the price hike. Would not buy a set now as high as they are. I have never been around a set of pods though. My 185's smoke pretty good and I have to watch the pyro when towing, but hardly ever have to do anything about it. Pumps tweaked pretty good, and no adjustments to limit smoke yet. I can not imagine what pods smoke like.

I don't get much drag racing done with the truck. A buddy rode in mine while towing though. Says it pulls harder then any other diesel he has been around. One of his friends has a big ford thats bombed, and he leans twords mine running better. AS far as racing goes, unknown. Towing is a bucnh differnt then racing.

Offer to race him at 15K GCVW up a 7% grade, and see what he says. Mom said that to one of the kids at the high school where she teaches, kid was bragging about his pickup (V8 gutless wonder) and the kid said "your truck cant do that. " SHe said the heck it cant; it did it an entire summer and fall in the Denver area, working for a moving company. Shut him up right away.

Most PSD owners know their pickups are inferior for towing. Plus, if you have a stick and he an auto, it'll take more for you to get the best of him. It can be done, esp if he just has a Banks kit.

Back to the question at hand......

Sorry for getting offtrack. I like the EDMs I got- too bad the Mach1s were too hot for my nonIC engine. Got em thru Rip Rook- great guy to deal with. Bully Dog also has an injector in the 40-50hp (over stock) range.

I have the Bully Dogs and really like them. Good power and very little smoke under power... ... absolutely none at idle.

But then I'm sure that pump settings/adjustments have a lot to do with smoke levels.

Good luck.

Jay

Who sells the EDM, I see them used on the board by differnt people but have not actuallyy found a place to sell them. Does anyone know what price the EDM, Bullydog go for because I found a place online sellig the Bosch 185 for 299. Do the other injectors compare in price ?

Joe

If you can get PW injectors for $299 a set, but every set they got, then sell them for $350 a set. Everyone will be happy then. Rough guestimate prices-

Bosch 185/PW- $750+

Lucas PODs- $400-450 balanced and matched

Bully Dog 50hp- $500 Balanced & Matched

EDMs Mach1- $650 (similar in hp to PWs) Mach2 (little more than PODs)- $750 (i think)

Got the EDMs through Rip Rook of Source Automotive. GO to www.f1diesel.com for info on EDMs. DOn can make you anything you want, from my finer spray/ stock flow to CB Parker's Ultra Top Secret Project Wonder Weenie smoke out the PSD types.

The prices are rough estimates from my deteriorating memory; dont hoold me to them, or try to hold the companies represented to them, either.

BTW- my EDMs might be for sale later this summer- I'm getting a new head, intercooler, and need 7mm injectors; possibly Mach2s.

How much horsepower do the 185 add compared to the bullydog injector's. The POD just seem like they might smoke to much for me . I checked the price of the place online and they show 299 a set ,it doesn't say if they are balanced though.

Joe

The Bully Dogs are rated at +50hp, and the PODs are rated at +60 I believe.

Of course the "raters" are the manufacturers, so I won't say for certain that there is a 10 hp difference between them... might be more.

All I know is I was also afraid of the reportedly excessive smoke of the PODs... . I live in a heavily patrolled, emissions testing state... .

So when I stumbled across a hardly used set of Bully Dogs at a good price from a TDR member, I bought them.

From drturfo who was going to buy PODs to replace them.

So... if we can get DRTURFO to chime in here, he might be able to shed light on how they compare.

Jay

edit: I found the private message he sent me comparing the two:

Re: Bully dogs vs PODs

Jay,

the difference i have seen is first off with the POD's is a ton more smoke, faster spool up , and on my Gtech dyno i picked up 28 HP over the Bully dogs, i never run it on the roller dyno until i put these in, but also i lost about 1. 5 miles to the gallon fuel milege with the POD's also. all in all i like the POD'S better, but i like the smoke also, we have smoke out contest around here.

Think I"m just gonna order the 185's ,the price is really good and they seem like they will add a decent amount of power. Not as much as I would like mind you ,but hey you can't have everything.

Sent them a e-mail so we will see I checked what kind of price they can do on the Bosch 190,figure it should be pretty comparable in price to the 185 I would think?Any way's just want to say thank's for the recommendation's on the injector's guy's
