Thinking about ordering new injectors (bigger one's) in a couple of months and I was wondering about which one's to order. I'm leaning towards DD's supermentals because I have there 2's right now and I like them alot. Whats your thoughts on the mental injectors? Also I'm wondering about these lazer cut injectors, Where are people getting these custom injectors and whats the pro's and con's on them and are they better than the extrude-honed injectors. Thanks!

I wouldn't go over a step 4 (Super Mental) level for daily driving. Once you go up that high in power, you need a turbo also that can move the air, and you got the right one.

Many racer/dyno-kings have "custom" injectors that they put in only for raceing/dynoing. There are several sources for them, old Don_M, J. R. Atkins, Enterprise Engine, and Sportbike, etc.

Thanks TxDieselKid for your reply, I'll probably stick with the supermentals. I wasn't gonna go to crazy with bigger injectors, I just wanted to add some more power since I got the clutch and the new turbo. Always wanting more.

Me4osu,

I probably won't change injectors untill springtime. That will allow me to save some money for the new ones. Let me know if your interested and if you want to wait that long.

Quote from the DD web page about super mentals:

"*** Mental Injectors are not intended for daily street use. These are our race series injectors. "

Thinking of bigger injectors..... and you already have twos... . heheheh you and I think alike..... :D If I thought the mentals would work okay in cold weather I would have them... .

Add me to the list. I don't care if they're race injectors or not... I am going bigger. I am thinking of BD 8's or I will see how these new 14 hole injectors pan out. :D

I run the mentals for a daily driver. Three thoughts come to mind.

1. It is really easy to soot someone if your not paying attention.

2. They seem to carbon up and loose performance if you don't run diesel additive.

3. My truck started eating lift pumps going down the quarter, so I now run a dual pump setup.

I have the same dilema DDIII or Supermetals

Kieth at Diesel Dynamics, told me in no uncertain terms that the super metals were not for every day use. So i'll be swaping out my DDII for DDIII. By the way my truck dynoed at 466hp with the DDII's cant wait to see what the III's will do.

Thanks guy's for the replies. Why aren't the supermentals recommened for daily driving? I know they will smoke a bit, but is there something else about them that we can't run them everyday? I know before I get them that I will have to upgrade my fuel system so I won't starve them.

If I where you I would call Keith at DD and ask him that very question. Although I think the post by Opz01 brings up a couple good points.

Bully Dog step 5 injectors here and lovin them. Egts are a non- issue with the EZ box alone. They will turn the day into night when you stomp the pedal with low boost, especially in the summer when it's hot and humid. I have had them in the truck for nearly 1 1/2 years now, no complaints. I send the oil out for analysis at every change and have yet to receive a hint of cylinder wash down. They make big RWHP and don't tax the injection pump, IMHO. They are very smooth at idle and acceleration. The smoke output is controlled by your right foot and the weather. Now that it is colder, they are damn near smokeless. The heaviest I towed with them so far was 10,000 lbs. , again, no problem with the egts. You will need a larger turbo if you stock and a good flowing exhaust and air filter. I have tried both the Scotty system with the K+N RE-0880 and the BHAF, both work well. If you live where it gets cold, a exhaust brake will help you to prevent wash down at idle time. Big injectors don't pull down the fuel pressure like the electronic boxes do, but make sure you you have good flow with low restrictions. Some day, when time permits, I will dyno with them. I don't know how much RWHP I am making, except that it's over 400 for sure and enough to keep me happy. When I want to go faster I ride the 12R   .

Have fun and upgrade wisely ;)
