What type of power increase will i yield with:

1. RV275 Injectors

2. DD2's

3. DD 3's

Truck is bone stock for now. Thanks in advance for all your replies!

Don't waste your time with RV275 or DDI's... . not enough performance for your trouble or money. I have a set of DDII's that are excelent for average driving and a set that DonM built me that are BIG. I personally wouldnt waste my money on the DDII's either... Go straight to the DDIII's of Supermentals or call Don Morrison in Dallas.

I installed a set of DDIIs in my truck. Very noticable gain in performance and great for towing. But alot people say to do it right the first time and get the IIIs because you will want more power once you've had a taste :D

If your going to install bigger injectors, you should also consider a boost fooler and elbow to up your boost pressure.

injectors

jhurst--I have the Banks Ottomind. Will system still need a boost fooler & elbow if the DDIII are installed? Would the DDIII's be too much HP?

That is not necessarly true... my Father (tdr memeber Jack in Alaska) has 275's and a boost fooler and could not be happier. They provided just enough of a kick in the pants that he is happy. He called me the other day and said that the truck with the 275's pulls his new 5ver way better than with out.

Of course it entirely depends on your objectives. . if you want to bust 13's in 1/4 mile then DD3's are the way to go, if you just want to tow your 5ver a little better then maybe 275's will be enought.

With that said, today I bought Super Mentals :D

Herman-

Im not all that familar with the ottomind, but if its like an Edge EZ and plugs into the MAP sensor, then it should work as a "fooler" and not let the computer set a overboost code. You need an elbow to keep the turbo from wastegating but I bet you already have it setup with the banks kit.

How much boost are you currently making?

DDIIIs with the banks kit will be ALOT of hp, but you should be fine if your transmission is upgraded and you keep an eye on EGTs.

I'm also hoping for clarification... .

I am currently trying to decide between the RV275s and DDIIs.

I have an EZ, MC, and MF on order with decision on which gauges by the end of the week. I have the BIG ($14k and growing) bomb list but have broken it down to something I can swallow this year. So my "little" bomb list is where I am at, even though I know that I will probably swap out the EZ and possibly the injectors in the future.

I drive mostly unloaded around town, the TT that I tow weighs 6500#. I am looking to pull the TT a bit easier and to have a bit of fun on the street. I do not expect to be...

pulling a sled (2wd) ... or... running down the drag strip (4. 10) any time in the near future.

The 275s are attractive because of the low cost and that they are a very mild upgrade from stock thus causing me less of a concern about my stock transmission. The only real negative things that I have heard about them are that they are not balanced (whatever that means?), they do not provide much power over stock injectors (considering the $), and that I will probably want to swap them out with DDIIs or DDIIIs in the future. I also know that a a lot of people use and think that they are great!

My concern about going straight to DDIIs are that they will cause me to burn up my stock trans (sooner??) and I might need an upgraded turbo.

Given my current situation and future (lack of) plans for "performance fun", what is recommended??

TIA,

Bill

DD 2's and an EZ + bye bye stock transmission in short order. With your HY and the towing you do, EGT's will be contolable with your right foot and air mods. Turbo will be a good idea but can wait a little depending on your self control ;) :D Did I mention bye bye stock transmission... ... ... ... ... ... even with just the 275's it may be a stretch.

Bummer! The best advise that I have received was to upgrade the trans first, but that just did not seem like it would be as much fun... Well, most of my 1st round is already on order. I was hoping to take it easy for the next year, without plans for towing in any major hills or mountains. I am also hoping to milk another year out of the stock trans which I realize is a dice roll. Thanks for the confirmation on the DDIIs!

Self control ???? wth is that? LOL

I have a Mega Cannon and MagnaFlow on order..... any idea where I can buy a right foot? :-laf

Ya know, I really wish you guys would quite confirming what I already knew and don't want to face..... just kidding. I really appreciate the input.

So I'll hold off on the injectors until I get the transmission.

Should I also not use the EZ until I get the trans as well.

Sorry if I am asking the obvious... .

The trans I can afford, it's the divorce that's going to break me!

Nope, I won't ask the fatal thread question... "which trans"!!!

How about "which lawyer" instead??? Somewhat joking, I've really got a great wife... who obviously does not read the TDR!

Thanks,

Bill

Bill,

There are thousands of posts about the auto transmission. In the last week I have spent about 20 hrs. reading all the posts.

I have talked to both companies and going with DTT.

I first went with the DD-II,s, 4" exhaust with the Blue Chip FMS and the HX35. At 2,000 miles. WOW what an increase . I did have allot of fun. But it was short lived (3 months) I was back in the shop for the trans upgrade. TC, VB from Sun Coast. This did in fact take care of my shutter and slip. Back on the fun time again. With the petal to the metal, it was all a blast. Then a year latter the adrenalin rush wore off and had to up grade again. I went to the BD step #5's this time with the HX40 the piers modified. Well the fun is back But I have to learn "how to drive" this new combo takes a little getting use to. The EGT hits the defueling at 1200 Deg pre turbo:eek: I can hit this in no time at all. So I started backing off the fueling % and my foot, I am now down to 12% increase. I have allot more power than with the DD II's when I was at 63% Max. But I did not have a problem with EGT with the HX35 and DD-II's as well. So the trade off for more power was that now I have a EGT "problem" to deal with when ever I start to push on the pedal. I will have to work on this. What do some of you other guys do with this "problem"? And how did you get arround it? OverFueled

I've come to the conclusion that the longevity of the trans is in direct proportion to how much control you have on the accelerator pedal.

I keep hearing about how weak this trans is but have several friends with older trucks towing 10-12000 pound race car trailers and some of the trucks have 90k miles on the stock trans.

Sure if you do any performance mods the life will shorten but you can't just start adding mods then hook up a 10k # trailer and start drag racing people.

I've read some posts about people bending solid hitches and breaking axle bolts. that to me sounds like abusing the hell out of the truck.

Personally when I tow (see my mods, soon to have RV275 injectors) I accelerate nice and constant just letting the truck work and don't really start pushing it until the converter is locked and I'm at least moving around 65 or so. I tow sleds (#2500) in the winter and a boat (#7000) in the summer and I usually run around 80 or so.

Maybe I'm wrong but if you use your brain the trans should last up to a point. I mean an Edge comp with DDIII's will give you the ability to smoke the trans on demand , but even then using some smarts might let it live.

Am I wrong ? Do I think like this because I haven't grenaded a trans yet ?:)

onesloryd,

I've been reading the forum close to daily for about the past year, and I'm finally getting around to buying. I must be very retentive and extremely cheap :) Actually I just try, perhaps to the point of excess, not to spend unwisely. I can relate to your reading efforts and I am also leaning heavily in the same trans direction.

overfueled,

Sounds like you've been having one he!! of a good time! Sorry, but your question is way over my head, but I'm sure that the TDR will provide with your answers. Good Luck!

Have A Great Day,

Bill

cwarner,

That is how I have been driving my truck when loaded, with trailer or most of the time for that mater. It ran great with just the 275 then I add the EZ and it ran much better, but at that time I knew that it was just a matter of time before the trans goes. My trans is not totally destroyed but I can slip the converter when it is locked. I get my DTT setup in two weeks and hopefully I won't have to worry about and drive-train issues after that.

How long after the addition of the EZ did you notice the trans slipping ?

I've had the EZ and will be adding 275's so I'm in the same boat as you.

Maybe my last post was all wrong ?!:)

I've just went thru this before on a boat. The stock Merc outdrive is only rated to 450hp and I was told anything over that and it will grenade. Well I've been putting 675hp thru one for a season and a half with no problems. Sure if I wanted to break it I could but just being somewhat smart with it has proven that it could live. I just thoght I could to the same thing with the stock trans.

cwarner,

I knew it was going to be a problem as soon as I installed the EZ.

So from that day with the exception of a few drag races I have treated it pretty gentle. Mine lasted about a year with only a couple of thousand miles towing between 10-12K.

It is funny you mentioned the boat, I had Bravo1X destroy itself with only 40hrs on it (not many hard hrs. ) with a stock 496HO motor.

By the way motor are you running now?
