Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Innerds of clutch visible from below ?

My CTD is a 2001 2WD NV4500. When changing the oil, I can see an opening on the bottom of the clutch housing right behind the oil pan. There is a toothed wheel inside and I'm not sure what it is. Should there be a cover to prevent dirt from entering this area?

The opening you see is normal and the tooth gear you see inside is the flywheel.

DC purposely leaves that opening there for pieces of clutch to fall thru after the TDR BOMBERS get thru doing their thing...
