Considering adding a lock-up controller to my 47 RE Auto Transmission. Curious as to how many have broke the OEM Input Shaft & how? I have heard conflicting reports regarding the use of lockup devices & the OEM Input Shaft on the automatic transmission. I have been told that there is a approx. 27% failure on the OEM input shaft when a lockup controller device is installed. I have also heard that under routine normal driving that the OEM Input Shaft will be fine if under 350 RWHP. I am considering adding a lockup device & exhaust brake & would like to hear your experiences good & bad. My intention is to be able to lock up 2nd gear when needed & to be able to run an exhaust brake when pulling. No lock to lock shifts or drag racing\sled pulling as this is my daily driver.

Thanks,

Clay.

One of my customers just lost his input and the splines on the output were distorted quite a bit. He dynoed at a lil over 350hp. (4x4)He has an ex brake,no lock-up devise, but had not used it with the trailer yet. Drag raced maybe 3-4 passes,it let go during a Quick accell/lane change with no trailer.

I am running an edge ez and an ATS transmission with the triple disk torque converter and the triple lock commander. I don't tow over 7k and have put my foot in the injectors more than once both loaded and unloaded and haven't had any problems yet (crossing fingers). Usually I end up just breaking traction when pulling away from the stop light with a heavy foot and with the trailer hooked up.

Lucky break. This one just snapped where it splines into the hub. I have seen some that have splintered and taken out the pump and TC.
