The turbo on my 1st Gen is wearing out. Showing some oil. I have purchased a factory-new turbo, with a a smaller 18CM housing. (My original is a 21CM) I also have a 16CM housing that I could install at the same time.
I'm also considering replacing the exhaust manifold with one of the BD manifolds from Geno's.
Question is: Does anyone have any experience with the BD manifold? Is it worth the price-$500. 00?
The truck is basically stock 92 W-250. Getrag 5-speed, 3. 54 gears, pump turned up slightly, 3" exhaust with muffler removed.
It will be used for towing a 28-foot travel trailer that weighs 6000 - 6500 lbs. (Depending on trip plans and extras carried). I feel I'm a gentle driver, and am interested in good fuel milage and some power improvement when towing, and low EGT.
My last tankfull of fuel, towing a small cargo trailer and with the truck & trailer loaded with furniture & household goods (more bulk than weight) was 22-MPG. Overall average since I've owned the truck 292,00 miles @ 18. 67-MPG. Last trip with the travel trailer (to the 1st Gen. meet in Iowa) 2330 Miles @ 11. 1 MPG. I generally drive the posted speed limit, +/- 5 mph.
Also have been considering a new exhaust system. The original is getting a little rusty even being a Arizona/Southern Colorado truck for all it's life. It has an exhaust brake -3". Would going to a 4" exhaust offer any benefit if the exhaust first has to pass through a 3" brake? (I DO NOT want to give up the exhaust brake!)
Any input appreciated. Thanks, Jack Dancoe
