Hail Storm Totaled Truck need advise

Rant - mimivans in traffic

I had a conversation via telephone with the insurance co I have 4 rigs insured with and I was told I would be receiving a notification of cancellation on my Dodge Ram Dually because----the insurance co is only authorized to insure pickups for personel use up to 10000# GVW in Oregon! They will insure Motor Homes as they are listed a misc. What a crock! I have written the Insurance Commission but do not expect much from that section. Will have to look around to see who will insure it. Any one want to purchase a 2001. 5?

I think they suck big time... but you can try Progressive.

They'll do anything to worm a buck out of you, but if you pay attention, you can get decent rates out of them.

SOUNDS FAMILIAR#@$%!

Gieco cancelled my ins when they found out the truck is a chassis cab:-{} And they had been insuring it for over a year WTF:confused: They could not figure out why the VIN would not go through, IDIOTS.

I then got a quote from Progressive and they said it has to be insured as a commercial vehicle:eek: I only use it for personnel use, NOT commercial. But they did insure it:) And for $200 cheaper than State FarmOo.

Insurance companies are a PITA

Thanks, I will look into Progressive. Hartford will insure a Motor Home which has a GVW of 26000#, so I asked what is the difference with my non personel dually with the slide in camper which can be lived in. They then asked if it was mounted on the PU all the time. sure. TALKING TO THEM IS LIKE PEEING IN THE WIND!!

You might check some references who have Progressive first. Only hearsay, but in my neck of the woods, they are at the very bottom of the list. Trying to get them to pay a claim is like trying to pull your own teeth. Cheapest isn't always best.

European insurance

FWIW, Over here in Europe, I found just one company who would recognise my Dodge 3500 truck with a slide-in camper and give me a decent quotation for full coverage insurance anywhere in central and western Europe, when I shipped it back to England last year.

This company is called the "National Farmers Union". If anyone else decides to come to Europe with a big truck, with either a slide-in or a 5er, then the N. F. U. is the only way to go. US insurance coverage and driving record is not recognised, but a letter from your existing USA insurer will give you a useful reduction.

State Farm had a problem with my old 82 D350 single rear wheel pickup. Their computer said it was a dually and I that would have to go through their commercial underwriter to get coverage. After talking to the nice agent they insured it as a private vehicle since it OBVIOUSLY was not a dually.

Several companies I talked to at that time said the same thing. In NC you have to have insurance, so I had to pay their price.

Wish I was independently wealthy enough to be self-insurable.....

I have my 98 insured through Country Companies Ins. here in Or. and I have none of the problems you are having. It is a 3500 with a canapy on it.
