it was clean. but i noticed there was a foam thingy in the back side of the box. do you clean this? wash it? throw it away? replace it? just looking for some comments. thanks. scott.

If it is the same size as the filter element, it was originally attached to the filter. One of the filters you can get for the truck (I believe the most current number) has that foam glued on it.

air filter foam

If it is blue foam on white filter it is part of the filter they needed to change filter to meet specs for air filteration the foam helps the over all filtering of the air. I just brush it off if you were to blow it out only blow it out from clean side to dirty side to keep from driving dirt in farther into filter

When it gets dirty I just tear the foam off and toss it and you still have a clean filter for awhile longer. :)

thanks for the input. i bought a fleetguard air filter and it didn't have any foam attached to it.

it was laying sideways when i looked in the big hole from the passenger side when i took it (the whole housing) out to change the oil. is it supposed to lay flat? on the bottom of the filter?

thanks.

scott.
