Well Im not sure if this is where is belongs and I couldn't seem to find it any where else, but I have a few questions about wiring my new gauges in. I am hoping to get some advise about how you may have installed your gauges.

-My first question is how do I tap in to a wire that will dim the gauges?

-What is an easy way to connect them to a key on power source?

-On the boost gauge should I put never seize on the connection to the motor?

-Should I connect them to a in line fuse?

-What cause the light switch to burn up and melt? I got my truck with the switch melted and don't want to have that happen agin?

-Is there anything you would suggest I should do to make this a painless install?

I've got a few ideas about what I'd like to do but figured I ask around to see what other people suggest. I've watched what seems like hours of people install these gauges and can't imagine soldering these wires straight to the wires on my light switch will end good. I was also thinking about using an inline fuse but don't know if I should put one on the key on power and one on the dimmer wire or even if its worth it. Any help or pictures would be very appreciated! Thanks for any advise, Nick
 
1. As far as being able to dim the gauge lights you have to remove the light switch from the dash and usea a wire spice into the dimmer control or you can cut the wire put the two wires together in a new butt connector and plug that into the controller.

2. I can't remember exactly which wire I tapped into for power, but it is in the area of the steering column. Usually the gauges have instructions that tell you which wire to find and tap into.

3. You shoudn't need antisieze on the connector to the engine, it isn't high enough temp to require it, but if you want to it shouldn't hurt anything.

4. Don't see a reason to put an inline fuse, seems like just a bunch of extra stuff to install.

5. Don't know what would cause you light switch to burn out.

If you want to make the install go real easy install the gauges in the a-pillar, then hook up all the wires to the gauges and route them down the bottom of the a-pillar and into the area around the steering column. Route the boost hose up and attach it to the gauge. Install the a-pillar then gently pull the excess wires down in the area around the steering column. The cut your wires to the required lengths and hook up.
 
I finally got around to putting my new toys in last night. It turned out to be much easer that I thought, counting prep time it may have took 6 hours total. For the egt probe I thought I'd play it safe and just removed the turbo off the manifold and drilled and taped it followed by a quick vacuum job. The hardest part was getting the wiring done. I daisy chained the cigarette lighter for 12v key on power. So I could dim the gauges I took my light switch apart. I replaced the connection to the dimmer wire so it goes straight in to the switch. The only down side so far is I like to see that boost gauge to move and I burned up a quarter tank in my little test drive... Thanks for the advise, if anyone wants some pictures of anything let me know I can run out and get some.

I bought a kit from dieselmanor.com and it came with full pics and instructions... go to there web site it might help...
 
Better late that never, wish I woulda looked around a little before I bough my at geno's. The kit on that website look like a pretty good deal and the install instruction we actually pretty detailed.

I bought a Painless Wiring CirKit Boss Aux fuse block so that I would have a spot to pull power for whatever project I was doing. It requires one tap to a switched power source and then connect Pos and Neg to battery. Makes for neat installs.



I put anti-sieze on everything.

There shouldn't be any need to tap into wires at all. Just locate the appropriate fuse and run with that. Far easier than cutting into wiring or fooling with the light switch.
