I will be swapping computers on my '96 Dodge pickup (see signature below). I have been told that the procedure is simple - unplug the old, undo the bolts, reverse the procedure for the new one. Has anybody else done this? Is it as easy as it sounds? Is it a good idea to disconnect the battery before starting? Are there any pitfalls to watch out for, or any tricks I should know? Thanks for any help. Don

<font color=blue>Its always a good idea to disconnect the battery while doing any electrical work. Granted nuthing will happen "most" of the time but why take that chance?

Removeing the two bolts that hold the fuel filter housing, and gently pushing it away from the block will give you better access.

Snapman, what you suggest is a good idea for changing the ECM which is bolted to the block although Lil' Smoker lists a "96. A "96 doesn't have an ECM. Something is amiss. The "96 may have a PCM for the auto transmission in which case that topic would need to be in the 12v forum. The PCM is on the firewall on the passenger side.

That doesn't even count the several hundred lost in servor crashes. You better get going #ad

I've got a long way to go to catch up. HVAC the 12 forum would be great if he was installing a trans or instaliing a new PCM to make trans to work. But the PCM does a whole lot more. I even have one in my truck and it's a 5 spd. #ad
