On my '95 with Dipricol gauges from TST I just followed the directions and all went smoothly. I installed the transmission temp sender in the recommended test port on the trans... but I want to move it in future, as it never reads above 100* and I don't believe it... need to get it into the hottest part of the fluid train. Pre-turbo is the only way to go for your EGT sender. Drilling a big ole hole in your exhaust manifold requires an act of faith, but just work carefully and all will be well. As instructed, I drilled 2" up from the turbo flange, 5/8" left of center. Bought a brand new (thus, sharp) Hitachi HSS split-point 5/16" bit, used a center punch to start the hole, and used liberal quantities of cutting oil to lube the bit and then the tap. I did not remove the turbo before drilling, and just used a 1/4" mechanics magnet to fish out all the bits... no problemo. Note that the tap I bought said to use a 11/32" drill bit, whereas the TST instructions said to use 5/16". I was worried about this... would the 11/32" bit leave a hole too big to be threaded well, or would the 5/16" leave too small a hole, causing the tap to crack the head? In the end I went with the 5/16, promising myself that if tapping seemed to require too much force I would back out and redrill with an 11/32. In the end, the tapping went smoothly. The 5/16" hole did require a bit more force on the tap than I was entirely comfortable with, but all went well.
