Question on 5th's

I am installing a Jordan Ultima 2020 Brake controller and have the physical installation done. I question is regarding the electrical.

The Jordan has 3 wires and the control cable coming from the box, Red - 12 vdc; Blue - Brake; and Green - Ground; the control cable physically attaches to the brake arm.

But the Dodge connector/pigtail supplied with the tow package has 4 wires, marked 12 vdc; trailer brake; ground; and one marked "trailer sense input".

Can anyone shed some light on the reason / need for the "trailer sense input" lead? I am just about done and would like to wrap this thing up.

Thanks for your help, I'll show my version of the install once I'm done.

Inertia and single-output ramped controllers need to know when you're braking. Therefore, they require the input signal from the brake light to activate them. The Jordan, on the other hand, knows when you're braking from the cable input from the brake pedal, so it doesn't need the signal from the brake lights.
