I installed a set of guages Friday (EGT, FP, and Boost) I am happy with the FP and Boost but I am not sure if the EGT is working correctly.

When I drive a big rig the pyro always moves slowly and when you let off of it, the guage slowly falls in temperature.

I am wondering if my EGT needle should fall and rise fast? I can punch it going uphill and raise the temp to 1,000 and if I push in the clutch it takes about six or seven seconds to read 350 degrees. This doesn't seem right to me and I am also wondering what I can do to fix it.

Thanks for the help

Mines pretty responsive.......

I have an auto but if I let off the go pedal it drops fairly quickly. The reverse if I mash the go pedal they raise fairly fast. Nothing like the boost though. :D :D

Pre or Post?

If your installed the thermocouple post turbo that sounds about right. If you installed pre turbo the gauge should react very quickly to changes in fuel.

I agree with Neal, in your big truck the pyro is almost certainly post turbo and your gauge reads more constant, and LOWER temps. Pre turbo mounting is very reactive up and down and will read HIGHER overall. Sounds OK to me. JIM G.

all engines i've seen (CAT, cummins, detroit) all have the pyrometer in the downpipe or the pipe right after the turbo. heat has to work its way out to the pyrometer if it is post mounted. if it is pre it will work quickly and react better to throttle and load changes. sounds like it is working right to me.

Thanks for all the answers, I was afraid that I did something wrong. Just seems weird to see the temp rise and fall so fast. Now that I know that it is normal I won't lose a moments sleep over it.

Thanks for your help
