Fellow Rammers:

I installed the BD short shift kit and wow what a difference. Now the only difference between my 3500 and a Viper is 6,000 Lbs. This 6-spd is way more fun to drive now!

Installation was straight-forward and easy. Took a little over an hour and a half to install.

Glad to see that it makes that much difference. I have a couple of questions about this kit if you don`t mind. A while back I had seen where some people had problems with some type of spacer with cracking & leaks, supposedly BD had addressed this issue. Do you know if it was taken care of in a design change. I`m very interested in this kit for my truck. Also where did you buy yours. :)

didn't know about problems

TJMIV:

i hadn't heard about problems except some folks were reporting leaks. I think it's pretty hard to mess up this install unless you don't follow the instructions. There are three plastic parts, all from DC  They are the shift tower, shifter tee inserts and the shifter bushing (goes on the bottom of metal shifter). I was real carefull to NOT overtighten the 4 screws that hold the plastic shock tower down. Another tip, whenever I use silicon sealant, I let it set up for 30 minutes before placing together. I also circle scre/bolt holes with it. Another tip: the new spacer and the old rubber isolator are not square, but are slightly rectangular. Getting this right will save you redoing your silicon bead.

To be honest, I've had this kit for about 5 months. I had been told by some folks it didn't make that much difference, so I was considering not installing. Boy am i glad I did install this. Just goes to show ya: sometimes you just have to go for it.

A real beneifit, if you've ever raced or tried to speed shift a 6-spd, how you can some times miss a shift. Now, shift is tight, crisp and short.

I bought this at Geno's, my favorite accessory dealer.

Hope this helps and Happy shifting,

short shifter

My wife got me one for an anniversery present, and i must say it is a BIG improvement. i have a 5 spd. so she went dirrectly to BD for it. the customer service was a joke. they treated her like a moron. then when she ask for them to call her work and not the house they called the house and ruined her suprise. :( after some (actually aLOT) of help from Hammer Christian got involved and

was unaware of the prob. He did straighten it out to our liking.

now back to the piece, well made great instructions and easy to

install. it REALY shortens the throw and the "H" is much tighter.

i only have about 130 mile on it but i realy like it!

Wiredawgs 100% correct on the ease of install!

Ron , Good to here from ya. Ck out my Sig. :D

see what happens when ya leave us. :p :p

The guys at our machine shop are so backlogged on other orders from other companies, I've had to run off prototypes myself, on other machines at another facility. Not an unusual occurence in the machine trades, but it is a little annoying. :D Still testing the pre-98 type shifter.

BD was the original developer of the 6 speed short shifter, I have no intention of copying it. They stand behind their products.

We MAY develop and test a version for the 6 speed, for the heck of it, if access to the CNC machines continues to be in our favor, over the winter.

The lion's share of our time is taken up with our first love, building DTT automatics. Not what you hand-shaker guys want to hear, huh? :D

I'm looking at getting rid of a couple other 5th gear problems common to our 5 speeds, I'm tired of losing 5th when dropping the hammer on the interstate to beat a Corvette to that hole in the traffic. :D Mitchell's dual disc holds, the rest doesn't. Let ya guys know when we've come up with something that holds. :)
