Installed Donaldson 51" muffler, 2000 RPM drone is worse than magnaflow!!!!

I have a mangaflow 5" exhaust on my truck and it has the aweful 2000 drone. So I ordered the Donaldson 090535 and installed it today. It is at least as bad as the magnaflow was, maybe worse. I am begining to wonder if they sent the wrong one. It says MEGAFLOW on it. I don't remember the last one I had saying that one it. If it is the right one, they must have changed something because my last one was great. Is there another part # I should try?

IIRC, there are two different 51" mufflers...



One has a baffle, the other is straight-through...

You might do a little searching on here or CumminsForum, I am pretty sure the numbers are listed there...

Donaldson numbers:

M100807 = 66" muffler
M100585 = 51" 1600CFM
M100580 = 51" 2500CFM
M100465 = 51" 2790CFM

the Donaldson M090535 is baffled. It sounds like you were sold a muffler that crosses with that part number.



BTW, the M100465 is the same muffler but with a 10" dia case vs. the 9" of the 090535

The Megaflow is a Walker muffler. I have one on my truck PN 22965 and below 2000 is has a nice rumble but above 2000 it is rather loud. It's straight through with no baffles 51 inches long and 9 inches around. Sure you didn't get a substitute muffler instead of what you ordered?

My 51" is part #M090544. It has the baffle and is pretty quiet.

I did the 5" system and Donaldson "Silent Partner" muffler that was also 51".

Had a horrible drone, swapped to 4" with Donaldson 51" M090544 I think was the number. . it had 4" inlet and outlet. Drone gone.



Through that process i learned many that try 5" systems pull them back off.

So is there a 5" donaldson that will get rid of the drone? The last one I had was a 4" and it worked great. I will definately go back to 4" if I have to. If there is a 5" that will quiten it down, could someone give a part #?

X2, for me on the 5" Donaldson muffler w/ baffle (or whatever) that is quiet (or the quietest)

Kinda on the spur of the moment (got my trans upgraded, upped my Smarty to 130-got a good case of the BOMBing bug) I bought a Diamond Eye 5" exhaust (turbo back). From what I hear here at TDR (and other places) and also looking down that open muffler, I can tell I'm going to have to make eventual changes to the muffler.

Kinda a joke, kinda not, but twins will quiet down a engine too, right?

I had the 51" donaldson, 5" full exhaust and mine had a drone, so I went with twins! Drone gone and my pocket book! Ha ha!

RAxley. I have teh exact diamond eye 5" w/muffler the you are talking about. Yes, the twins will remove all drone with that exhaust.



My truck is super quiet, and the EGT's are definatly in check. Only picked up about 15-25* from just a downpipe. You would never guess my truck can turn nearly 600rwhp from the exhaust note.
