Have question for all third gen owners. I've installed a banks monster exhaust and just finished the install of the afe intake kit. I can hear some turbo noise but still would like a bit more sound of that big cummins HO motor. I've heard some thing about silencer rings being removed and intake "x" baffles but i'm lost as to what everyone is talking about. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!! I'm not wanting something abnoxious to the point i wont be able to hear my wife talk while we are driving down the road, but something with a little more sound from under the hood. thanks

removing the turbo ring will make a noticable increase in noise, primarily more of a "whistle" from the turbo. as far as the "x" vanes that dodge has on the intake pipe i honestly don't how they limit the noise from the turbo. Geno's garage offers a elimitaore pipe that is stainless steel that is made by TDR member pat moore, the pipe looks great and does not have those vanes inside, thus i would assume a substancial amount of noise would be generated. geno's agarage sells it for $50. 00. try removing the turbo ring and see what difference is made and if that is not enough, try the eliminator pipe. removing the ring is the most economical, and cost- efficient solution for your, and will make a noticiable gain in turbo noise. that's my 2cents!

Has anybody found a combo that eliminates the rushing air sound and gives more of a brrraaaaap?

Do any of you suppose the new timing boxes will change the sound?

I like the rushing air sound! The way I see it, the engine is just a big 'ol overly-complex air pump anyways!

When I removed my silencer ring I was really happy with the change in the turbo noise. The wine is really really high, up around 10,000 hertz. Extremely recommended cheap upgrade!

where is the ring and what parts do i remove?

are the veins that you guys are refering to just aft of the stock air box in the connection pipe/tube?

Pulled out the silencer ring and took a sawzall to remove the "x" vanes (BE CAREFUL to make sure all plastic shavings are out before reinstalling!). Silencer ring removed made most noticeable difference. "X" vanes very minor.
