Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Head gasket leak theory...

The rubber in my stock dampner was getting bad, so I installed a Fluidamper today. I followed the instructions to relocate the speed sensor. After finishing up the install, I started the truck and the tach does not work. As for the plus side, the truck idles alot smoother than before. The sensor did fall off the bench onto a piece of carpet. Did I damage the sensor or is it a wiring problem? Thanks.

What did you do to add length to the wiring? Fluidampr wants you to cut the factory harness and add length, but what they send looks more like trailer wiring  It makes for a poor, unsealed connection at best.

I unwrapped the factory harness back to about the injection pump and then routed the crank sensor wiring down the left side of the timing cover, never cut a wire on the factory harness. Covered the wires back up and added some conduit to the crank sensor wiring. It came out pretty clean really.

Also, what is the air gap set at on the sensor? . 049-. 051 is factory, i have mine set a little closer.

If the connections are good and the gap is right, you may have hurt the sensor when it fell, but it's hard to believe off the bench onto carpet hurt the sensor

I used the extension wiring that came with the Fluidamper. It is a weatherpak connector, so I was comfortable using it. I soldered the wires and used heatshrink instead of the crimp together connections they sent. I dropped a crank sensor off of other truck, that has a gas engine. I had to get a new one, but that one had hit concrete. I may look into what a new sensor cost. I know my wiring is correct.

Try checking the air gap. I had mine set too far away the last time I had my front cover off and the tach just kind of jumped around at 500 or so. Try finding a feeler gauge or something about . 050 thick to stuff in there while you tighten the nuts down.
