... and it was a real PITA. Alot more work than installing on in my 01. 5 becasue of the vacuum pump. Took me several hours to figure out how to get the new serpentine belt installed. Total install time was probably around 10 hours, but I'm kind of slow with mods like this. Everything worked OK when I was done. :)

Why can't DC put a disconnect plug with all the electrical connections in one place and then just plug the ebrake harness into it? It would eliminate the need to mess with the ECM plugs, which could get real ugly if you screwed up.

I link the shifter mounted switch and the fact that the ECM turns the brake off when you stop. :)

Here's where I bought it.

Mud flaps and Line-X and I'm done.

New guy here, so I apologize in advance if I screw this up... .

I also am looking at the Jacob's EB and was wondering if anybody had looked into using an electric vacuum pump in lieu of the supplied belt driven vacuum pump. I am a Ford IDI/Diesel Stop convert, and the electric vacuum pumps came up a couple of times over there. It appears that using one would save a lot of headaches and maybe some cash if the EB could be bought without all the vacuum equipment.

Yeah, the belt was definately a PITA. Like one of those Chinese puzzles.

I put an unused 03 model into a 04 which meant I had to do some additional wire splicing and sodering. But since I got it for $700 it was worth the hassle. Also was kinda scary poking around the ECM. "Well, lets see how can I screw up and fry this baby?"

The 600s were advertized being ebrake ready. Do they come with a vacum pump setup?

The 600's are as ebrake ready as the earilier models. No pump.

Why don't they use an electric servo and eliminate the vacuum system entirely? Seems like a real waste to turn the pump all the time for the little bit of work it actually does.

Where did the vacuum come from on the 2nd gens?

The vacuum pump is what put me off of the Jacobs. I had one on the 01' and loved it, but just didn't like adding the extra pump. The Pac has some issues of it's own, but all in all, I would rather deal with the mini compressor than the pump..... IMHO

Not sure if I read the instructions better, but I had no problems with the belt or putting the pump on. It was a tight fit, but it fit well. Maybe with all of the practice I have rebuilding Jeeps helped. I don't mind the pump off the engine either. I can't believe the drag off that pulley creates any decrease in performance for my 5. 9. BTW, I got a $500 rebate off mine so that was a determining factor in getting the Mopar one.

DE Jeeper, I'm getting the ebrakes installed this coming Thursday, the 8th. Where did you hear of the $500 rebate? How did you get it? When did you have yours installed? Larv

The vacuum on the older generations was generated by the vacuum pump mounted on the power steering pump. The real question is how does the new 03 & 04's develope vacuum for the power brakes? I think it comes off the power steering pump again but is just for the brakes and you can't tap off of it like you could in the past... .

On the '03 and '04 use a seperate vacuum pump that you have to add on to the front of the engine. It is powered by a new serp be belt.

I got the rebate when I ordered my truck in Oct of '02. I got it in the mail, maybe because my lease was up on my '00 1500??? Either way I used it when ordering my new truck and I am sure it is no longer available.

REBATE

There is a $500 rebate available if you have your own business. I beleive this is only available if done at time of purchase and cannot be used along with the Farm Burea rebate.

The rebate I got was a for one of 9-10 listed Mopar accessories in a pamphlet. This was not toward the purchase of the truck, but you had to buy a truck to use it.
