Anything I should know? How much trans fluid will leak out? Replace wires and plug? Where do the wires connect away from the trans/VSS forward? Thank you for helping me out.
Blessings, Patrick
My 1992 FSM doesn't answer any of your questions, hopefully some auto owners will pop in (my truck is a 4WD 5-sp). According to my book the WT/OR goes to a 10-pin connector rear left engine and a splice feed that to pin 6 left printed circuit board (for the speedometer), daytime running light module for Canada trucks, and pin 47 "speed sensor pickup" on the SBEC. The BK/Lt Blue goes to a splice w/6-7 other BK/Lt Blue (all sensors...crank, water-in-fuel, intake air temp, coolant temp, trans temp, throttle position), and one of those goes through a black connector plug "(left rear of engine)" to pin 4, "sensor return" on the SBEC. Torque by-the-book is 100 in-lb for the adapter retainer (if you take it out) and 150 in-lb for the sensor. If you do take out the retainer and speedometer adapter "rotate adapter until required range numbers [correspond to number of teeth on the pinion gear] are at six o'clock position." There's only mention of topping off ATF, so can't say what might come out.
Don't suppose you're lucky enough to be due for an ATF change anyway?
You will get a new VSS plug with it. Replace the old plug. The stock plugs like to loosen up over the years and have caused countless problems for 1st gen owners.
