I am considering the installation of air horns on the roof of the cab. Has anyone done this on a 2001 RAM 3500 Quad cab and how difficult is the process. I plan on purchase from Rickson Truck Accessories. Any help you can give is definitely appreciated. Jack. :)

I installed the Ambassador horns from Hadley, but no matter what you install on the roof get ready to DRILL. First the headliner has to come down. Not that hard, but take your time and use your head. Find the position where you want the horns-check, check, check and re-check the position on the roof. Use a punch before drilling, and then drill. YA-HOO. The Hadleys had pretty good directions but you can always improvise. I've installed 4 sets of horns on the roof and they came out great. One tip though, check the airlines for leaks BEFORE you re-install the headliner-saves alot of time/trouble. Good luck-Jim

I'm real cautious about drilling anything into the roof. You create a new potential leak, and if you every have to remove the horns, your stuck with a hole. I mouted my 24" Grover horn in front of the front wheel well liner, just behind the headlights. Slanting the horn down will keep water out, and you'll have enough room for the horn. Just MHO!!!:)

air horns mount

I got my Grovers from Rickson also. After doing a lot of crawling around under the hood & under tyhe truck I mounted mine behind the bumper, under the rt. headlight. If you remove the rt. bumper brace, drill one hole in it ( there is 1 hole already) to mount the horns. When you put the brace back in place the horns face the center of the truck & are slanted downward to let any water run out. I then mounted the tank vertically on the ouside of the frame under the rear seat (on rt. side). When Rickson replaced the original pump with the new & improved oil less model I mounted it upside-down under the bed near the tank. Works like a charm--you will love the Grovers & Rickson's is a great place to do business.

Rdrunner, I am still hoping to save enough $$ to get you to put some on the Okie-Go when we have our campout in Kerrville in June. The sound is just awesome!

can someone email me or PM me some prices on different air horns? Anyone know what brand that is they sell in J. C. Whitney?

jcohoon,

I installed hadley horns on my roof 2 years ago. It was a piece of cake. I had the liner out in 15 min. . The part of the horn that's on the inside will make the liner move down maybe 1/4" but not enough to notice. Watch out if you're screwing any brackets in the inside up, be sure the screw is short enough so it doesn't go through the roof. I used lots of silicon and haven't had any leaks. I'm very pleased with the install and the looks... Just wish they had some kind of cover to keep the bugs out of the horn, every so often you need to blast them out!

I mounted my Hadley's behind the front bumber like rdrunner. Hooked the activate wire to the factory horn button with another switch to disable air horns when going through inspection.

LRamey-Hadley does make covers for the "Bully". Keeps bugs and more importantly snow out of the trumpets. Cost about $18-20 for the pair.
