Someone broke into my truck last month. Then a few weeks later, someone stole my neighbors Honda Element (Meth addicts must like butt ugly cars. . )

I picked up a DEI Python 881xp alarm on ebay. Now I need to install it. Does anyone have any tips for doing the install? Where are the best places to tap into the harness for remote start and remote unlock?

The oem or dc accessory keyless entry/alarm came with an extensive harness.

1. Your post doesn't say auto trans or manual trans. If you have a manual, you will need to over-ride the clutch switch for the remote start. Remember to leave it in neutral. I don't recommend this, dangerous at best. I've seen one start in gear and start to move even with the e-brake lightly applied. So please be careful. Oor engines have tremendous torque at idle! Another consideration, does the remote start have a time delay for the grid heaters to cycle (cold weather starts) first before it engages the starter motor?

Was the alarm even for a diesel?

Oh, you'll need the SLT package or at least power locks too.

2. The oem key-less entry receiver mounts in the driver's door cavity. Your alarm maybe Dodge specific and come with a harness that plugs into the oem wiring. However, I doubt it, most aftermarkets don't do this. So you'll need to look at a wiring diagram (factory service manual or mitchell's etc )or pull the power lock switch then find out which wire(s) are necessary so the transmitters will work.

I've seen many clever theft prevention devices. (Switched shut-down solenoids with a hidden switch). Allows the engine to roll over, but not crank. Hidden switches in the ign (start) circuit etc.

You might review archive posts or older issues of the TDR as different methods pop up from time to time.

Good luck,

This is the python version of the DEI viper 791 xv. It has an input for the. wait to start light. Also my truck is an auto. Was a factory keyless entry and alarm available on our trucks in 1995? I might want to start out looking at +hier install install instructions.

I believe (not sure though) both the keyless entry and alarm were available as an order code and as a Dealer add on thru the accessory catalog (for sure).

I would get the manu. of your alarm and ask for vehicle specific installation instructions (since they knew of the wait to start)

I have the Python 881 alarm system on my truck. Great alarm. Lots of wires... . if you are comfortable doing LOTS of wiring to some sensitive circuit under your dash and your hood then you can probably hook it up. If there is any doubt I highly suggest having a PRO hook it up.

This alarm will handle the remote entry if you have power locks. You can not use the factory remote entry once this system is installed. They will fight.

PM me with your email address and I will send you the install guide if your interested. It is large... .

I would highly suggest get the factory service manual for your truck to trace the wires with. Some alarm company websites have "short-hand" wire locating charts. I found one on the web and printed it. Can't seem to locate it now...

On edit: Found a site with a wire locator... .

Best advice I can give you (if you decide to wire it yourself): Take your time, check all connections twice before making permanent. It took me 2 full weekends to finish mine.

Some links that I followed while doing my install... .

PS. I am not the guy in the sound domain links. the one asking all the questions or the one giving advice. I just learned from his pain.....

I picked up a Crime Guard 850i4e yesterday, paid $499 installed for the system, and $55 more for some well placed LED's to show the truck is armed.

It's a sweet system, I pick my truck up today, but it has a microphone for picking up "cutting" glass noise, and "Metal on glass", plus a two-stage shock sensor. 1st stage is a chirp,. with blinking lights,, 2nd is full tilt boogie.

2 minute turbo timer, "pit-stop" feature (allows truck to run w/o keys, and "armed"), remote start, 2 "Auxillaries", and a status remote, which reports back to you if there have been any zones violated.

I have the window's up feature, remote start, last door arming, automatic re-arming, turbo timer, pit-stop, courtesy entry, auto lock w/ignition on, and un-lock w/ignition off, plus driver's door priority.

I'll have the hood, two doors, and my fuel door (possibly the tailgate too), equipped with sensors, and will be active "zones".

Plus, I got my radar detector hard wired into my overhead console...

Walked out paying $607, lifetime warrenty on install, and limited lifetime on alarm.

Not a bad deal if I don't say so myself.
