Just bought a trick dual ameter/voltmeter from Westach.

I need some input on the best spot to place the shunt for accurate readings and reliability.

Any thoughts on where to tap into the alternator wire to do this?

I am afraid I do not have the wiring diagram of the truck... but I do know to avoid tapping into the starter circuit! That might be colorful (briefly) when I turned the key for the first time!

TIA

(Yeah, I know, more guages. I just can't seem to stop. Pictures soon to follow. My name is "Joe" and I'm a guage-a-holic..... )

Try to use the Power outlet its all time on. Will show direct power all the time use a in line fuse . Lol Ron Bissett in Metro Louisville KY:confused: :D

Ampmeter

To work correctly, give net charge, (alternator input minus any load going out) the shunt will have to be in the red wire going into the PDC from the drivers side battery, this is a 6 gauge wire so make sure the shunt is at least that heavy. The pickup for voltage reading could also tie in there. bg

BG is correct, the shunt needs to be 1st thing that both positive terminals of the batteries see.

current being drawn from the batteries will show - on the ampmeter, when the alternator can supply all the current required by the loads in the truck... . and still charge the battery, you will see a the amp meter swing to the +

so with the truck not running, shunt and amp meter installed, when you turn on the headlights, the amp meter will swing to the - , since your drawing current from the batteries.
