I'm installing a B&M drain plug in my '05 CTD 48RE transmission pan. Any suggestions on where to locate the drain on the bottom of the pan?

Passenger side of oil pan 2/3 to 3/4 of the way to the rear of the pan. That area is open inside and won't interfere. Drill your hole so it is between the pan bolts on the vertical so it won't interfere with accessing them.

Less chance of something knocking the drain loose and dumping the fluid. Also, when you drain the fluid one usually drops the pan and looks at the accumulation in the pan to determine potential issues.

Kinda like reading tea leaves. :D

Putting the drain as close to the bottom of the pan on the side will only leave a quart or so in the pan.

Thanks that make sense. Nylon washer goes on outside per instructions. Any kind of sealant used on inside of pan under the nut?

Well, thought I had never used high temp silicone before but found a tube of Pematex High Temp RTV Gasket Silicone in the garage. Website says good to 650 degrees and recommended for oil and transmission pans. Looks like this will work.
