2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Installing DSS

Just tried to install the DSS and found out that the original nut holding the pitman arm is larger than 1 1/4".

Does anyone know what the exact size is? Of course, the largest size I have "IS",,, 1 1/4".

I'd rather buy just one socket than a few to make sure I have the right size.

Thanks in advance!

Someone else asked this same question in one of the forums on here a few days ago. The size was given in that thread. I don't remember the size, off hand.

I popped mine loose using a big crecent wrench I had. Grab it with a pipe wrench if nothing else!

The new nut/stub is yet a different size and will require a large, deep socket. Here again, I just reefed down on it with the crecent wrench. I know it's supposed to be torqued to some specific number, but rather than spring for a big, deep socket, I compromised. It's got the lock washer behind it so I'm not worried about it coming loose.

JGK,

The new nut is 1 1/4". I have that socket. I tried using a cresent and a pipe wrench but just can't break it free. I don't have the leverage. I have a compressor and if I had the correct size socket, she'd be off in a second.

I'm still searching for that post you spoke of.

Thanks for the reply.

So far I've found a quess at 1 3/8" which sounds about right. I'll call Sears and see if they have an assortment in those sizes.

rmrc,

The thread I spoke of is a few down the list in this same forum! It the one you replied to about sitting on the fence on this mod (post #12)! :)

In there, PRyker also said its 1-5/16ths.

Now, get that 5 gal bucket to support everything.
