I finally got my DiPricols from Genos (they showed up two hours AFTER I took off for the airport for an extended business trip on the east coast:{ ). I'm installing this weekend, though.



A quick question - I am installing a pyrometer and a boost gage. On the pyro, when you all screwed your thermocouple into your manifold, did you use any anti-sieze or thread locker? What torque did you tighten the fittings to. Hate to have anything fall out! On the boost gage I am going to use a boost bolt (I have a good quality torque wrench - 12 ft-lbs!), but do I need to tape (teflon) those threads or the threads at the gage?



Any help would be appreciated!

Teflon tape is good on the boost fittings. If you intend to ever tak the thermocouple out of your exhaust manifold put never seize on it. I put it on mine and it was stil alot of work to get it out without ruining it. Good luck.

I definately recommend the anti-sieze on the thermocouple. I had mine post turbo for awhile and when it came time (when i got the guts!) to move it pre-turbo it came out really smooth. I didn't use teflon tape on the boost but did use a thread sealer instead, not sure which is better.
 
We just did our DiProcals this past weekend. Scott (Proram) who has probably forgotten more than some of us will know, recommended NOT using anti-seize on either, IF you ever wanted them to come out again, so we didn't use any.



He didn't use a torque wrench for either the thermocouple or the boost bolt. Hand tightened juuuust snug. No issues or leaks, and I have checked them after a couple days.

becareful on the boost bolt, I had my torque wrench set at 12 lbs and it snapped the sob. hand tighten it as best you can then maybe a 1/8 of a turn with a wrench if you are one of those anal guys :D
 
Years and years ago when I worked on air-cooled VW's we used to use the rule of thumb for torquing the head bolts:



Tighten until they strip then back em off a 1/4 turn. :D



The aluminum engine cases were notorius for stripping 5 lb-ft below the "recommended" torque. Got really good at installing heli-coils, though!

i put high temp copper anti seize on the 1/8" npt fitting that went into the exhaust manifold, but i didn't put any on compression nut holding the thermocouple in place. for the intake i put teflon tape on the npt threads and dry on the compression fittings
