Once I finish the lift pump job the GSK is next. I took the fender lining off and looked for the side plate that I have read about. Is it round, about the size of a silver dollar with a big hex bolt in the middle?

Bingo, I think its a 7/8 socket, and your gonna want to take off the three bolts that hold on the fuel shutoff solenoid. There is 2 on the top of the AFC housing and one hiding in the back. Just put the solenoid off to the side and take the plug out. Then your on your way to more RPM'S Oo. Oo.

Have a magnet handy :{ . One of the extendable ones will help you from accidently dropping washers and springs in the abyss  . Hold it on the parts even while removing the retainers.

A little side note here to help you, although it's not in the instructions when you get everything off you can loosen the fuel shut off arm a little(8mm) and slide it away from the pump to help clear that cap, but be careful as it has a wedge on the shaft so don't get it too loose or take it off or you will be looking for that on the ground or one of the 47 spots to hide tools on the frame:(

Thanks, at least I have a better mental picture of what I have to do. I ordered my kit from piers, so I think those instructions will be with it. It's been 8 days now, guess I'll call them tormorrow to see if they were sent.

You might want to take some before/after data when you install the 3Kgsk kit. I did so and found my boost (WOT) at 1500 rpm decreased from 15 psi to 11 psi (95 5 spd).

It turns out that instlling the 3K gsk can modify the gov arm/plate relatioinship. It was necessary for me move the torque plate (original plate) forward . 020 in order to regain my original rpm/fueling status. You might want to take several data points. I checked at 1000, 1500, and 2000 rpm and in every case, boost was about 4 psi low before plate adjustments were made to compensate. Now, with all corrections made, I am pleased.

Is it defenetly worth it to access this from the wheelwell? I have a little brown box from canada on my workbench with 4 little springs inside Oo. And will be tackling this in the next couple of days.

Thanks, Jim

Don't have to

You don't have to go thrugh the wheel-well, in fact I've never gone through the wheel well to access the side plug on the pump.

Remove the solenoid

Remove the solenoid arm

DON'T drop the small woodruff key!!!

Remove side plug

Bar engine [rotate] till you see one of the spring retainers

Follow the instructions with the springs. .

Hope this helps,. Greg L

ya, I see no reason to go through the wheelwell, I would think it would be harder cause you would have to wind around a bunch of stuff. just put a mat over the fender, stand on a block if your short, and you'll be golden. TST says to go through the top of the pump, not the way to do it. good luck

Thanks for all the tips. I'm putting this off for awhile. I was expecting the kit early this week, it came today. Tomorrow I leave for CA to do a little work. I'm going in from the side to keep from having to remove the intake horn, et al. I've already had the fender liner off to check it out and I like the view better from there than from the top.
