Hello - I have ordered a new set of leaf springs and shackle bushings for my 92 W250. Before I install the springs/bushings is there anything else I should have on hand? I assume the shackles and u-bolts can be reused?

Any words of wisdom/gotchas I should be aware of?

Thanks,

C. D. Hunter

Pretty strait forward. I remove the wheels and then block up the frame and then use a floor jack to move the axle up and down as needed. Do one side at a time so the axle doesn't roll off the jack. Be carefull with the brake line. A 1/2" impact gun makes for allot less effort. Remember that the inner bolts on the passenger side are studs into the axle. If they come out with the nut be sure to seat them well before you put everything back together. Use lots of neversieze when you reassemble. Have fun.

I would be prepared to buy new U-bolts, they like to seize up (at least here where they use salt on the roads).

Spray everything down with PB Blaster or your favorite penetrating oil for several days before the job also helps.

Drive it for a few days and then go back and recheck the torque on the bolts.
