Pac brake says to mount it on top of the motor by th air intake (right next to valve cover. . My bypass oil filter is located there. So that's a no go. )

So where to mount it. . I thought some one said before to put it on fender well or hood hinge area, tucked some where. . I have a frnt replacement bumper and winch so no room there.

Please any help would be nice.

Thanks

The pacbrake comes with a pre manufactured bracket for mounting the compressor... The electrical lines and air lines are suitable to mount the compressor in other spots... .

To be honest, we've installed so many but have never thought about a different location because the stock suggested location is very easy to do...

I'd just find a spot and put it there... I've mounted air horns below the radiator and I'm sure there's room to mount the compressor there... however you'd need to lengthen the electrical connections...

I know this is not an exact answer but I'm sure you can work it in... . it just won't be the simple installation that it normally is. .

The instructions for my PRXB had an alternate location shown on the passenger side inner fender brace. It is part of the new compressor mounting application instructions for 2003 and newer trucks. Pump mounts vertically w/ self tapping screws. Wherever you mount it consider access to the air line fitting in case you use it for an auxillary air source. I am happy w/ my PRXB set up. You will not be dissapointed with this system.

One thing I'd take into consideration is keeping away from road debris (salt). I'm sure that compressor won't last long with a coating of salt on it after the winter.

Hey Jim, I got my Pacbrake from you. It's a little off topic but, I was considering putting on an intake horn. Do you have any experience with any of these working or not working with the Pacbrake compressor bracketry?

I mounted mine to the rear of the passenger side battery. I do not know if the '06 has room there. I can post a picture if you are interested.

SSalzer... . sorry I don't... . I'm guessing that most of the trucks we see here in the pacific northwest are work trucks towing stock trailers, or people who want to pull 5er's... plus the larger truck stuff... .

PRXB compressor location

I would suggest mounting the compressor at the alternate location on the fender bracket, as I think the location will keep the compressor cooler.

I installed mine in the normal location by the valve cover.

While driving through the Sierra foothills with my 4,300 lbs TC I had the exhaust brake on. Unfortunately as I climbed Priest grade, a very curvy 6% average grade for more than 5 miles of Hwy 120, it cycled on and off at each curve. The air temperature was in the low 90's.

Near the top the compressor stopped working due to it being heat soaked and flipped it's internal thermal cutoff switch. I don't know whether it was just the higher duty cycle of the compressor for the climb (~10 minutes) or the heat of the engine compartment or both.

I thought the thermal cutoff would reset pretty quickly, but 25 minutes later as I descended the 3 mile 10% grade down Cherry lake road, it had not reset. I missed my exhaust brake.

I now shut off my brake when climbing to keep it cooler and will probably relocate my compressor.
